Mines named after Ventnor on the isle of man. Mind I've found 2 linked to my mother-in-laws family tree, one called beach road, named because the land on it was owned by her grandad who's name was beach, the other blakelock, which I've just found and am trying to find out more about. My m-i-l is my hubbies adoptive mum and I've just started on her tree.

All named after trees around here...Laburnum, Chestnut, Acacia. My mum lives in Hornchurch near where the airfield used to be during the war. There is now a housing estate on some of it and they are all named after pilots etc....Bader Way being the main one.

Dee, the estate next to us was built in the 70's. It is opposite the golf course here. They have named the roads after famous golf courses. The estate just up the road was built on an equestrian centre. The roads are all named on a horsey theme. Bridle way is one of them.

I found one Dee. My GG Grandfather named a street in Fulham after his Mother and Grandparents (Turner) only the Manor of Fulham as it was then in 1896 messed it up. It should have been Turnerville Road and they called it Turneville Road. I got the original paperwork from a cousin just the other day and I was thrilled to see that the street is still there (now under Kensington Council) but a bit peeved to see they spelt it wrong. I guess it's a bit late to point it out now! Sheila

Langley Vale (previously called Langley Bottom until it offended Victorian sensibilities) originally consisted of 3 parallel roads, Rosebery, Grosvenor and Beaconsfield - named after Lords with connections to the Epsom Derby. There should be a Derby Road here too but there isn't! There are now a few Closes off Beaconsfield Road, one named after the old Metropolitan Police stables, Manamead, which were demolished to make way for housing development. A smaller Police stables was built, but these too, have now been demolished and replaced by the aptly named Stable Close! Sue xx

Was talking to Paul Chunky Monkey one day about my Greenley family name. I was saying that the name seemed to be most prevalent in the counties of Yorkshire and Hertfordshire but I hadn't found a connection between the two groups. He told me there was an estate near him in Milton Keynes called the Greenley Estate, and that it wasn't a very nice place. I told him that as it was down south it obviously must have been named after the Hertfordshire lot! LOL

The land that our subdivision sits on used to be owned by a couple of families. The streets are named after their horses and dogs. I'm guessing that Sultan was one of the horses. Deb

Have you ever stopped to think how it got its name?? On a new housing estate near me two of the roads have been named after people who have died within my lifetime. One tragically died young and the other was a respected local man, who had served the community as a member of the local council and various organisations Perhaps some of your ancestors have had roads named after them.
