Documentary tonight about alcoholism/addiction. Filmed in the Medway/Kent hospital, following 4 people with alcoholic addiction. A couple of people don't live to the end of filming.... Perhaps it will be a help/reminder to all of us whose lives have been affected by this illness, and also a warning call to the young drinkers out there to think about what they're doing to their livers now.... Well, I just thought there had been some discussiions recently on here about alcoholism and maybe it will answer some questions and help people realise how destructive it is.... Sylvxx

and sadly its not just the drinker but theor whole family who suffer. And their friends. IF they dont want help or leave it too late - heartbreaking and souldestroying.

I know... it's going to be quite raw this programme, but the producer said he wanted to show addiction as it really is...

One of my daughters had her baby in Medway hospital, she'll be watching. The clips they showed this morning were of a man who had liver failure and also one of a woman, difficult to tell their ages though.

I have just read about this in the paper and it says one is a 43 year old Vanda, well I did know somebody of that age and name so wonder if its her. She is my sister in laws cousin so will have to contact her to find out if its the same one.

An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 21 Nov 2006 17:02

Having watched a friend slowly kill himself with alcohol, and the wife of another friend have her children taken away from her because she tipped her baby out of the pushchair into the road in a drunken stupor, giving the baby a fractured skull, I don't know if I want to watch this. The friend's wife set her house on fire and died as a result - drunk. I have another friend, a young woman, who drinks two bottles of wine a night. She does not have a problem - she says. I have spoken to her about this drinking (she often phones me late at night, incoherent and crying with drink) but she always has an excuse - she is stressed and it helps her to relax, or, what's the problem, loads of people drink a bottle of wine with their meal (yes, but you miss out the meal bit). I am an interfering busybody by nature, lol, and it is very difficult for me to stand by and watch her do this to herself. She has the shakes - and wonders why! She has headaches - ah, that is sinus. She vomits in the morning - ah, that is something she ate. I really don't know what, if anything, I can do. Or whether I should even try. OC

Sure, I think it will be difficult but then the results of alcohol addiction aren't fairy tale.... these are real. ... I really posted this as I said in my first post, as there has been discussion on the board thought it may help....

I have watched the first hour and have had to record the rest as my son wants to watch the wrestling. I have always thought that alcoholism was self inflicted but after seeing those poor souls on there I have every sympathy for them. They all seem beyond help. Shame they have got that far with out somebody stopping them.
