Hi Doreen I notified the police on the evening it happened but I have heard nothing at all from them. I think the fraud department of Barclays will take it up with them as I notified them of the crime number. Gill |

Sounds like a good idea wendy but how come we can use credit cards without photo ID there? And it looks as though your card details must have been obtained in Tenerife then if you didn't use it in UK? (By somebody returning to UK perhaps, from a restaurant?) Ann |

It as I said earlier, doesnt have to be a ATM that is cloning.your cards ...you only need one of the carbon copies of a counter card machine....or your copy of the page of the transfer. Bob |

Hi Gillian, Im truely sorry to hear what has happened. It's really aweful. It sounds like your card was cloned. This is the latest thing now. Cards are cloned when you insert into cash machine to withdraw. A friend of mine got a call from her bank asking if she had tried to withdraw cash in France 3 days in a row. She hadn't even been out of the country and upon checking her purse her card was still there. I hope that everything gets sorted out very soon. |

Electoral Rolls. Did you know you can opt out of having your name on the electoral rolls available to public view. Also re shredding it was on the television recently that the ordinary shredders were not good enough and we should be using cross shredders (don't know what this is but I assume it shreds both ways). It gets more frightening all the time. I have used cash for all my Christmas shopping this year, paranoid maybe but better safe than sorry and they reckon chip and pin is not safe.Remember all web sites CAN be hacked. Take care and a Merry Crime free Christmas to you all. Pat |

I got my letter yesterday from Nationwide re the laptop theft. Bit late that!! And WHY do they let employees take home sensitive client details. Anything could happen, the laptop could have gone missing anywhere between Office & home |

My cousin had his card skimmed a couple of years ago, most probably in a restaurant. Do not let your card out of your sight. They will not be offended if you ask to go up to the counter to pay, just don't let anyone walk away with your card. I wonder sometimes about Bank security, we are still waiting for our letter from Nationwide over the laptop theft. Rosalind |

A couple of months ago our daughters OH got two contracts sent to him, well variations of his name, from Virgin mobile welcoming him to their network. Apparently two phones had been supplied in a MIDLANDS virgin shop on their address, they live in Kent!!!, the bank a/c given wasnt theirs altho the name was SIL on the supposed bank A/c. They reported it to Virgin who teated them as if THEY were pulling a fast one. They reported it to the Police and got a crime nos. they then got demand letters from Virgin cos the D/D's had been rejected. Daughter again went on to Virgin who said the phones had been cut off and it was being investigated. On stating to Virgin that they didnt want THEIR credit tarnished by this, Virgin had the cheek to say they couldnt guarantee it!!. they have had letters since demanding payment and saying it was being put to debt collectors, SIL said 'bring it on ,I will shame Virgin in court'. Daughter doesnt need this stress cos shes only just in remission from Hodgkins after six months of chemo. They do strim everything that has their name on ,but police said these scum only have to get copies of the electoral rolls Shirley |

Been following this and pleased that you will get your money back. also went straight in and checked our bank on line!!! The worrying part to me is the fact that they had the address as well as the bank details, which points to a bank statement or similar. I wonder if banks are as careful as they should be with their waste, is everything shreded etc. makes you wonder doesn't it? Ann Glos |

Gill Glad its being sorted for you, we had some money taken from our joint account a while back. Leaves a nasty taste doesn't it? what made my blood boil was the fact that despite the fact it was a joint account, as it was his card that had been cloned, the bank would only deal with him!! Jess with reference to your comment - paying for bus tickets with a card confuses me slightly - they must be able to tell you where those tickets were purchased ,to and from - when our card was cloned it was used to pay off a morgan stanley credit card, yet we was told it wouldn't be traced!!! Muffy we think his card was also cloned at a dodgy petrol station, esp as one of the one he uses was later in national news for that problem. |

Knowing that City Link are aware is very relieving. If the perpetrators are tracking the order they will know they have been sussed out and will not return. A lesson learned for me. Trust your instincts and be very careful in the future. As you say Elaine they are probably trying it on with someone else already. Gill |

Good news. The retailer emailed city link last night and has had confirmation back that they will return the television to them so I am assured of a refund from them. On another front I received a letter from my banks fraud department this morning dated the 14th December with all four transactions plus one that was declined. In the letter is the following paragraph: ‘In this instance we have placed a “safeguard” on your account which protects you against any potential fraud in the immediate future. As a result of the “safeguard”, when your debit card is next used, the retailer will be prompted to contact us so that we can verify that your card s in the right hands.’ I used the card yesterday before I knew anything about this and guess what – no prompt to contact them. Good safeguard or what! Gill |

The card has been stopped, They will be aware of this the next time they try to use the card, or the details online . Possibly once they have paid for something using a huge amount from a card, they wont strike again as they will assume its been reported to the police and is being tracked. To come back a few days later to your house would be very silly. I doubt they will return unless they are really thick. as Jess said, they are probably on the next scam elsewhere. But I can still understand your concern. Put a small notice near your doorbell Fraudsters Beware~~~~~~~~You are being tracked. Elaine x |
