God she was mean to me...will never forget her!! I hope she never had kids she was a hard beggar! She had the kind of stare that would root you to the spot! lol Sorry to go off the thread a bit..... i was given a copy of james Herbert's 'the rats' for my 9th or 10th birthday. the main reason i remember is that it had a very naughty rude bit half way through that i read, (several million times!) lol!

I remember one called 'Old Chairs To Mend' I read it several times. A lovely story but I can't remember who wrote it but I would have read it in about 1969/70. Another one was bought for me one Christmas around the same time. It was a huge compilation of children's stories. I think it was called 'The Encyclopaedia of Children's Literature' or 'Children's Treasury of Literature' circa 1970 it had a beautiful colourful jacket and lovely illustrations. I had it until not so long ago, even my children read it. It has now disappeared and I can't remember the publisher. I used to work in a bookshop and searched for it there but I have a sneaky suspicion it is sadly now out of print. Any ideas?
