Wow, this page three is a bit odd!! If I cannot sleep, which is not usually a problem, it is my quality of sleep that bothers me, I try to imagine moving furniture round a room or redesigning a room, etc. For example, when I recently stayed in a lovely but homely and slightly shabby four bedroomed cottage by the coast in West Norfolk, I imagined how I would change it, how I would decorate it etc so that's a little bit like your idea Sue. It usually worked but as I said I don't often have a problem falling asleep, never takes me too long! |

This might help. It sometimes does me. I read this idea in a book recently. You imagine your own personal House of Sleep. Any form of visualisation will do....you don't have to actually be able to 'see' images of it in your head. Think of where you would like it to be and how you would like it to be. It's your imaginary place so it can be anywhere and anyhow. If you are tossing and turning tell yourself firmly that you know you have problems or worries but you will deal with them in the morning. Then take yourself to your own imaginary house. In my own visualisation my House of Sleep is by the sea on a cliff and I usually start by seeing myself on the beach and imagining a wander along the shore and then up the cliff path to my imaginary house. I have a fabulous view from the top of the cliff and I try to visualise that. This house has a beautiful garden and I take a walk around that before going inside. The odd thing is I have never yet imagined the rooms inside as so far I have fallen asleep before I get any further than the front door!!! So it might be worth trying to do this. Concentrate only on the images you are conjuring up and if nothing else it is pleasanter imagining your perfect restful home than lying there counting sheep! I'd be interested to know if this works for anyone else. Good luck Sue |

When I can't get to sleep I think of a topic, ie. Flowers, girls names, makes of cars, animals etc then go through the alphabet trying to think of a name with that letter. I rarely get to the end of the alphabet before falling asleep! Chris |

Jeff, after my Mum died my Dad had an awful job getting to sleep with things running through his mind......he used what he called muddling, to sort it out......what he did, when it started, he would deliberately think of something else, then something different.... it goes like this, you think of a rhyme, rhyme it with time, think of a watch, then watching, binoculars, then seagulls, then the beach, and so on.....just keep thinking of different things......and then you wake up after going to sleep..... I have had to do it a lot in the last year, and it does work, you just train your brain away from what it is focussed on......try it and see..... |

Add all those rhymes in your head To our Ron's rhyming thread. All the rhymes are from A to Zed. Just add your rhymes if you can't sleep in bed! The thread is by Ron of Hampshire. Look on the boards, its very near! Chris xx |

I'll watch this thread carefully to see if anyone has any solutions Carol ps OH says he'll provide me with a sledge hammer if I want--can't think what he means!!! lol |

Ahhhh Jeff..you know you're tempting fate by reading in bed until it's late! You're pushing your brainbox much to far When you should be kipping in your boudoir! Not reading, writing, and thinking in rhyme Until dawn breaks at morning time! No stuff a-buzzing in your head When you should be resting in your bed! NO!!!! A scented barf, a glass of wine is my prescription at evening time! No Coca Cola or even tea Make sure that you are caffeine free! And sleep will come, with gentle arms to cradle you softly with her charms Then when you wake...with the morning sun You'll write better rhymes than you've ever done! Dee x |

Oh Carol, you are awful, but I like you. I'm afraid I'm not in to such naughty things Lol I went to the chemist for some tablets to build my strength up, but I had to take them back the day after 'cos I couldn't get the top off the bottle. Jeff PMSL |
