I've got Emma - which I have from college days -but neither of the others. I was really cross as I had popped into the library Friday before the result of the vote to return some books. When I saw the result I checked where books via the internet - and Gentlemen and Players had been taken out that day!! Grrr. Hope it's returned soon as I would like to read that one - may order it anyway. Have a great holiday Ann - we'll miss you on here. Kate |

Still waiting for the books to come in, but while I was in Asda yesterday I saw Gentlemen and Players so I bought it. Finding it quite hard to get into, but that could be because there are so many characters. Hopefully it will get better as it goes on Jeanette x |

How's everyone getting on with the books? I've finished Gentlemen and Players and thoroughly enjoyed it. Started Emma but I'm finding it a bit hard going as I usually do with the classics! lol. Just picked Lady of Hay up from the library this morning Jeanette x |

Want to recommened How to Survive your Mother this amazing tale will make you feel grateful and humble. Maitland (the bloke off Tonight with Sir Trevor Macdonald who has mad hair) grew up with a mother who surrounded herself with lies and tall tales - even going as far as faking her own death to manipulate the feelings of her kids. Maitland goes off to find out more about her - knowing that underneath the legend of his own mother there must be more stories to hear. What he doesn't expect to find is that his mother was actually a con artist. Bearing in mind that Maitland specialises in uncovering swindlers, it must have taken some guts to stick this in print. I don't want to spoil it too much, but there are some amazing moments in the book, sometimes you find yourself checking the cover to make sure it really is a true story. JM writes it all in such a likeable easy to read way (just like his on-screen self, actually) that you find yourself carried along from page to page, chapter to chapter. Amazing to think, after all the bloke's been through, that he's come through relatively all right. I saw him on the Wright Stuff talking about it all and he's quite philosphical. I would heartily recommend you give this one a read. |

Jill.........do keep reading Gentlemen and Players. It took me a while to get into it, but it is worth it. Daughter is reading it now and has said the same. Alfie.....just read what you can. I doubt I'll finish Emma in time and, to be honest, I'm finding it hard going! Jeanette x |
