Perhaps Mike you will re-read my post,,,,Cameron is taking this stance because he knows it is true even in todays *forces* but he has made a political stand. ----of course it goes hand in hand with training as we all know,, it only comes abusive when anyone is singled out,,and if someone is going to stand there and bawl their eyes out at the slightest roasting then these are toughend up,,,,,,,,,, I also have *forces*persons in the family serving now in Bassra dad was a forces person --of course its accepted by many, |

William what you say is so right - If we allow the new recruits to be treated with kid gloves and wrap them up in cotton wool then what will happen when they are sent to war? Breaking them (you know what I mean) is a way of weeding out the boys from the men, and of course the girls too.. Debs x |

my dad had the uttermost respect for the ghurkas, and when he was in india,he learnt [i think ]punjabi fluently, and another language[not sure which] he used to talk to my indian neighbours in there language[showing off].they called him dad, lol.so my point is the army never made him racist ,in fact he was the reverse.wos so proud of my dad.he was a hero.as all are boys are.xxxxxxxxxxxx |

The problem is the country is becoming too PC, but he is only speaking the truth and the thing is the people who these comments are/were aimed at have no problem with it so why should Cameron? Because he thinks he will lose votes - He has now, all you have to do is read what has been written on the BBC website. I had no problem being teased and such when I was in the military and my husband will tell you he had no complaints from his lads either! (He is still serving) Debs x |

I have been a serviceman. Anybody who thinks he or she can sign up for the Queens shilling and not be treated badly is a fool. You get sworn at, called all the scum under the sun (and treated like it too.) But you know what? If you take it and learn from it you come out the other side a far better person. You realise that you are all in the same boat, be you black green yellow or heliotrope, scots, english, welsh or any combination. You know your mates, you look out for one and other. And something else too. You actually get to love that miserable sod who gave you such a hard time and you can remember him like a Dad.Because he was always there to fight your corner PROVIDED that you gave of your best. I say leave the services alone. Political interference will result in a melted down namby pamby bunch of no hopers. |

Hi Marion I think your answer probably says it all. Mike Ps. My father landed on D-Day and was shot in the leg as his Naval Commando unit stormed the beach. As he lay there , a Canadian Seargent ran past , tossed him a magazine , and said, 'There you go you lazy limey bastard , read this while your waiting.' My father never forgot that ..... and do you really believe he objected to being called a limey bastard !!!!!!!! |

Hi Joy , lovely to hear from you again. I suspect the answers to this posting will come from two different camps ..... Those whose families and themselves actually stood up to be counted and those who like to voice what they believe are the currently acceptable opinions to have. For anyone who believes that these sort of expressions died out in the services etc 25 years ago .......... then they speak without any knowledge of the subject. mike |
