Cut & Paste: Have you ever had to copy a really big letter or paragraph by typing from one file to another? Or from a web page to an email? If so, you know it can be a very tedious job. Let your mouse relieve your keyboard fingers for a minute. You can do what is called 'Cut & Paste' or Copy & Paste'. To C&P, you simply locate the text or image or file that you wish to relocate or copy. For our example we are going to work with the text here on this page. You will need to open a word processor program or even the Microsoft Notepad installed on all Windows machines by default. You can open Notepad by going to START / PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / NOTEPAD. Once the Notepad window is open, come back to this window and you can toggle between these two windows by clicking on whichever window you need on the taskbar. OK, place the mouse cursor at the beginning of the text you wish to copy anywhere on this page. Click and hold the left mouse button. Now, with the mouse button still being held, drag your mouse across the text. You will see the text being highlighted as you pass over it. When you get to the end of the text you want to copy, release the mouse button. Be sure not to click again because it will unselect the text you just selected. Instead, place the cursor anywhere INSIDE of the blue, highlighted text and right-click the mouse. You will then be given a menu. You can now choose either 'Copy' or 'Cut'. The difference between the two is that when you Cut & Paste, the text will not be left in the original document from which you took the text. You literally cut it out, as opposed to just copying it. Once you have Cut or Copied the text, you need to put it somewhere now. Go to and click the Add Reply and place the cursor where you want to place the text that you copied, top left by default and right-click the mouse. When the menu appears, you will choose PASTE. Whallah! You have done your first of countless C&Ps. Now, if you go to another location on the document and right-click and choose PASTE again, you will notice that you can paste it over and over again. This is very handy if you have to retype something many many times.
