Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 3 Apr 2007 20:24

I have also had a reply today saying that these problems are being passed over as urgent with all of this week's issues. I have told them that I don't think that's good enough. I've also asked them to update us via a message on the boards. Maz. XX

Yes, I've had a similar response to Joy (MM) in that my concerns have been passed on to the development team. They were very sympathetic to the problem, although they did say that the heading could be changed. I replied and explained that it couldn't be changed, as it didn't appear on 'sent' messages, it appeared on messages received from a contact for the first time. Mandy:)

Popeye Have reread my message and I can see that I maybe sound sharp - that certainly wasn't my intention and I apologise if that is how Rose saw it, the sharpness wasn't aimed at her! I certainly don't blame any of the MEMBERS on here for this latest piece of idiocy. OC

Sorry folks, had gone off to bed last night so only just read the majority of these messages. Just to confirm - the BIRTH name comes up in the MESSAGE HEADER (not shouting, can't get bold on this site!). Also to confirm that I'm talking about BIRTH, ie pre-adoption, name, not my current 'everyday' name. I don't have any problems whatsoever with anyone knowing my current name (and why would I?) but a pre-adoption name is a totally different matter. Hi David :) My birth tree was the one I started doing before my adoptive tree which is why it's the one I've always used for posting - but your suggestion makes sense. I should really be using the account for my adoptive tree and name. Anyway, I've removed my biological tree from here - I've gone back quite a way thanks to some good connections and will do like quite a few people, just look for matches myself. Mandy

Has anyone got proof that someone else can see your name and date of birth on a message you have sent them? I think YOU see it, not them I certainly haven't on any messages people have sent me.

Lairy I prefer to do my own searching on this site, not wait for GR to send me a load of Not Matches. I joined this site because I thought it was a genealogy site, not a finding living people site. I now see that many people are interested in tracing the living, and that is fine - but I don't want to be traced. There are a few serious weirdoes on this site, and many more on the internet at large - all of whom can come on here and silently take note. And we are told that all our details on here are private - but it is obvious today, that they are not! OC

Rose mate You prob mean me cos I only have one in my tree now - you know why. However, this site is still a useful one for me as I use the search facility for any new names I get and share my info on a needs to know basis that way. It may not be ideal but I feel the need to protect what is left of my privacy. Sadly I think many others may go the same way with this new system. I don't give a monkeys btw how long someone has been a member for and all that jazz. but i do think that bandying personal info about is more than a bit off xx

Right. Changed my maiden name and my year of birth. How utterly ridiculous. OC

An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 2 Apr 2007 00:17

I am not an adoptee, nor involved in the adoption triangle, but I am VERY annoyed to discover, by looking at 'My Contacts' that my maiden name and year of birth appear as a default 'title' in contact messages.. Why on earth this should be, I do not know, as I NEVER send a message without a title (usually name and birth year of the person I am interested in) What makes it worse is that I cannot find the messages that these contacts supposedly sent me - one I do know was a recent auto 'reply' to a message I never sent! I abandoned my tree on here long ago, but I think now is the time to remove it - and me - completely. I particularly do NOT want my real name known on here, as when I used to post in my real name, I realised that google picks up all sorts of other things about me. All harmless on their own, but could be made use of by some mischief maker. Furious. OC
