Keith, this all sounds horribly familiar! I have got used to odd things happening with my husband travelling so frequenty to the UAE - and now the same sort of things happen with my younger son. I think the inhabitants of the UAE regard our country as being so small, they really do not need to allow any travelling time for you to get to the airports! I assume you will be having leave back in the UK? Make sure you are allowed enough travelling time. I gather you will be leaving your OH back here? But for our two sons who were (fifteen years ago) coming up to their senior school and Uni time, I would have moved out there long ago. In your position out there, do you require professional weather forecasts? I can recommend a team in A.D. who are very good! Jo p.s. if you are flying into A.D. join Etihad Airways and get the Frequent Flyers' perks. The A.D. Airline. Never fly Gulf Airlines - and even Emirates is a bit suspect - they can do odd things with your luggage as well! And once you get a Resident's Permit you should be able to buy alcohol - well, you can in A.D.

Hi Joanne, Thanks for the advice, I will be flying Emirates, have flown a few times with them before with no problems apart from delays, but of course they only fly to Dubai. So have approx 90 min drive to Fujairah. Last time I went, it took me approx 90 mins to clear customs as well, they were so slow. As for alcohol, non muslims are permitted to buy in the hotels etc, but I dont drink anyway, have not had alcohol since before xmas, lost the taste for it! As I am an aircraft engineer, I do not require weather forecasts, but the pilots use the service at Fujairah International airport, as that is where we are based. Thanks for the offer though.
