No idea about weather forecast, but I have good memories of collecting and eating beech nuts from the many trees in our school grounds, when at secondary school.

Some years they are just too fiddly to bother with and not worth the effort.
It sounds as if I could be luckier this year.

I confirmed, by googling, that this is a bumper year for beech mast.

Noticed it first on the large, mature trees at the old mental hospital near here - the grass is covered in the pinky mast. It also sticks like mad to the dogs fur, does folklore say that a bumper year means a nice summer... :-)
