Von, my longest-known friend (since Easter 1949) got a surprise when I did her family history. The person she always thought was her grandad was her great-uncle who stood in for his brother because following WW1 he was in a sanatorium. Sadly he died and she never knew him. Very sad for all of them. |

Von, my dad was in the RN - but he was already in when WW2 broke out and at that time his ship was in the Med and they only had their whites and were ordered straight up to Scapa Flow and not allowed to call into their base at Chatham to collect their cold weather gear. :-( |
