lighteningmaps.org
Had a look on there and there is activity around Inverness and south of there. Quite interesting as it also covers Europe so you see all over where the storms are at a glance.
Quite sunny here but still a haze of fog around.
Haven't done anything at all but sat with leg up but I am feeling quite tired now after such an early start.
Gwyn think there may be some lightening in your area along the coast.

Im back, not sure what that loud rumble was but nothing since.
Joan I looked at the Power Track Map and there is a power cut in the Banchory area and also on Isle of Skye ,Inverness and Orkney Can't see any warnings for bad weather either. However I'm guessing that warning probably covers Northern Scotland which is a big area!
I did notice though on my travels today, the main river is really low and the lochs are even lower showing stones that you wouldn't normally see, all quite worrying and unless we get some heavy rain soon, we will be on a hosepipe ban.
Think I shall add bottled water to my shopping list just to be prepared for emergencies and also more plasters lol. We ran out last night of washing up liquid and daughter is on way home and by golly if she has forgotten, I will strangle her :-D :-D :-D
Well a quiet afternoon so paperwork can be done sitting at the table.
Take care all and Joan, try not to worry.

I am glad the bleeding has stopped Florence, but it does sound as if you need to stop the tablets before the next injection. I was glad to read that it was fog, not a fire. It is very hot and humid here, we haven’t had any rain at all and aren’t forecast for any I went to my slimming class this morning and then sorted the recipes out for the week. I then went to Tesco and Lidl to buy everything. There were a few things I couldn’t get, so I am improvising tonight. I wanted trout, but have morphed that into tuna steaks. Tesco didn’t have any frozen soy beans, I am hoping that there might be some in the freezer, if not I have some baby B-road beans, so they will have to stand in. I couldn’t get any puy lentils either, but I don’t need them until the end of the week, so hopefully the deli in the market square will have them. I hate it when I think I am organised for the week, but then can’t get the ingredients
I am intending to do nothing for the rest of the afternoon as it is too hot

Well, all is back to normal thank goodness! Yes Gwyn I did stop the blood thinners before when I had surgery for something else so maybe next time(in 6 months) I shall speak with GP beforehand about stopping them for 2 days.
Honestly, I was running out of dressings and only had toilet roll to hold tight as kitchen rolls on order and not arrived yet what a carry on.
Joan , poor you getting that message making you all worried. Just as a precaution, can your daughter get you some bottled water just in case? Even if you dont use it, it will keep ages as an emergency. Still foggy here but havent seen any warnings of bad weather. Like you we are on the priority list as daughter has Insulin in the fridge.
But what can they do to support us anyway? We have cool bags and some ice packs in freezer which could keep insulin chilled. Its ok for 12 hours after which it cant be used and we have 12 pens in the fridge of different sorts, one for day/rrapid and one for night.
God I think I heard a loud rumble of thunder...eeeek off to fill the kettle just in case. Back in a minute or 2.

Gosh Florence, that sounds excessive bleeding :-0 Maybe ask a medical opinion if it doesn't stop bleeding soon. I would try to keep your leg rested /elevated and have a quiet afternoon. I hope everything calms down and you soon feel the benefits from the treatment.
Perhaps in view of this happening, your doctor would advise stopping your blood thinner for a couple of days prior to further treatment.? That's what I had to do before an operation or dental treatment, but only with medical advice.
Really warm here again and there are deep cracks in the grass in the back garden due to lack of rain.... No thunderstorms for us, yet. I don't like extremes of weather, so am finding plenty to do in doors with the curtains drawn to make shade.

Afternoon all Well it turned out to be very dense fog not smoke! Was thick fog still when i got up at 6am.
I have returned from hospital around 12 and my left knee has been bleeding badly since. I have had to change the dressing 5 times as was soaked with blood.
So I was on the mobile when I suddenly looked down to see my whole leg covered in blood, what a mess! So again I cleaned it up and another dressing but im pressing hard on the wound to hopefully stop it. I'm on blood thinners which is the cause but its nearly 3 hours since i got the jag!!. I put my long shorts on but now the hem is soaked in blood as are my flip flops.
Anyway, I cleaned it all and think its beginning to slow down hopefully.
"Bone man" was in a good mood today at least and by tomorrow should feel relief so that's the upside of the jags.
Aside from that, it is warm and the sun is starting to peep through the clouds at long last.
Hope everyone else well and ok today.
I'm in need of a drink of something and a sandwich now!

Well we are a little concerned as just over the hills from us has been a horrid yellow haze of thick smoke and we think the moor is on fire!! if it comes over the hills and heads this way, could be a dangerous situation so watching out the window through my binoculars.
Thankfully cant se any flames just a thick haze. Nothing on local news site yet but keep checking.
The earlier rain we had has brought out my roses and all the plants have also perked up, just wish it would start raining again just now.
Back later with any updates

Lucky people having rain, it has been very hot here. It was the monthly town litter pick, so OH. and I went, but left Eve behind. It was scorching, so we only lasted an hour, we still picked lots of litter.
We are having a bbq instead of Sunday dinner, I don’t really like them, but they do. The whole house reeks of smoke now

Hope all goes well tomorrow Florence.
Yes the cheese rolling is mad and dangerous but it attracts contestants from all over the world. Some people like danger. The female who won the ladies race was actually unconscious when she reached the bottom as she fell so she was awarded the prize and carted off to hospital. as it is no longer official (but sort of allowed) the emergency services are not in attendance but they do park up within easy reach as they know they could be needed. I think the hill is steeper than it looks which comes as a surprise to people and it is not mown so is a bit rough. we have viewed it from the top several times as it is close to one of the walks we used to do. It is actually fenced off during the year.
We have not had any thunder but have had a few quite heavy showers of rain which has perked the garden up it was 22 degrees and cloudy all day until 4.30 when the sun came out. it is still 22 and very hot in the sun. The rain pulled down a rambling rose with the weight of the roses so I have had to cut some branches off.

Lots of thunder and lightning here last night, about 10.30. Absolutely torrential rain for a while, and also more normal rain later.
I love that smell of rain on very dry ground.
But very localised - the village 5 miles away only had a light shower.
And as you say, Florence, the midges are out with a vengeance today.

Afternoon all.
Well it came at 7am this morning......the rain.
Yes after 2 months, the wet stuff finally returned and the grass has been well and truly watered. Not torrential but the steady drizzle which is what we needed as this type of rain actually seeps into the ground. A heavy downpour just runs off. The plants have had a good drink so no watering for us to do today.
Midges out in force in their armies so def no windows open here unless Im on a death wish lol.
AnnG, I have seen bits on the news about the annual cheese rolling and it looks so dangerous! Why on earth would anyone want to take part?
I have just finished the ironing and the basket once again is empty. Love to see an empty basket!
Tomorrow I'm at the hospital for my knee jags and have to be ready from 8am for the ambulance to collect me so a very early rise for me. My appointment is at 10.30 so will need to leave here by 9.30 anyway.
Mums flat goes live on Tuesday after all this time. Oh my the paperwork involved was horrendous. What we use to call "the specs" on a property is now called " a brochure"....fancy words for the same thing! Just hope it sells as prices are falling weekly.
Well left overs from buffet yesterday and that means...no cooking, yay a day off :-D
No thunderstorms here, has anyone else got them?

Your cheese rolling is crackers Ann :-D I read about this years event recently and so many people were hurt. The bed race has been going since 1966 and I don’t think there have been many injuries. A few of the floats looked like they were going to tip over in the river, but the teams managed to right them. The teams stay in a channel formed by orange ropes, there are lots of marshals in wet suits in the water and some in boats where they have to swim. If anyone got into trouble, they would be spotted immediately It is going to be twenty seven degrees today, so we will be having a garden day with the large paddling pool. We will fill it with hot water, so it is more like a hot tub which Esme loves. She will play in it all day. If we put cold water in, they can’t stay in the water.
Have a good day everyone

Just G how lovely to see people after such a long time, lots of photos I expect and more memories made. Glad you had a good time. Florence, that buffet sounded rather moreish, shame about the weather though, it was glorious here yesterday and so far today it is sunny and 21 degrees at 0830. Linda, what a great day you had, love the sound of the decorated beds and then the race, doesn't sound as if anyone was hurt as well. A bit different to our annual race (cheese roll) when it is a rare year when nobody is hurt. And well done for not falling in the river too. It did sound as if you thoroughly enjoyed it all and I am sure Eve did as well. :-)

I hate mozzies and midges Florence, I think I have a large sign over my head saying” bite me”
We went to the Knaresborough bed race today and it was scorching. Luckily it was just Eve, her father, OH and me. Esme had a birthday party for someone in her class to go to, so she couldn’t come. That was just as well given the heat. I think there were ninety six teams this year. They are all given an identical metal base on wheels. Goodness knows how they store them during the year. They decorate them and they are judged. Each bed can have as many helpers as they want, they are all in fancy dress to match whatever theme has been chosen. There is a huge parade around the town, complete with marching bands etc. We managed to find a very good viewing spot, amazing as the town is absolutely heaving with visitors, between 20-30 thousand usually The teams all end up down by the river where they strip off all of the decorations, just leaving the metal frame which has a chair on it and some buoyancy floats. All the teams are then reduced to six pushers and a passenger, usually a young teenager. They set off at one minute intervals and have to complete the 2.4 mile course, not easy as it is an incredibly hilly town. They come hurtling down the huge hill at breakneck speed. Once they get back down to river level, they actually have to push the bed along the river for a hundred yards or so. It is so deep at that point, that they actually have to swim. There is just one section of river bank where a few people can clamber down through the brambles and nettles so you are right opposite where they are swimming. It was a lot more overgrown this year, but we managed it. There was a fallen willow tree which was still growing and jutting out over the water. Eve and her dad climbed onto that. OH and I both slipped and ended up sitting on the bank. Again we had a great view. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get up as I was just sitting in the dusty soil right in the edge of the bank, but I managed it without falling in :-D :-D

Afternoon all. JustGinnie, good to see you posting and glad everything back to normal with you.
Its been a lovely hot day at the front but in the back garden a nippy easterly breeze. That put the dampers on our food tonight. daughter came back with some treats and I decided to make a cold buffet. So a tuna pasta, potato salad, green salad with prawns, crabsticks etc. Some breaded drumsticks and put 6 petit pain bread rolls in too.
Yummy crisps, some dips and the last of the non-alcoholic Pimms.
However, the haar from the sea is heading fast this way making the air damp so buffet indoors sadly.
There will be enough left over for tomorrow as well. always a bonus :-D
Hope everyone else had a good day

Hello all,
Well back to normal now, we had visitors from far away. They were here for 10 days so a lot of catching up done. 3 we hadn't seen for 15 years (except on skype) 1 we saw 4 years ago and 1 we had not met before (in law) . When they left Britain the youngest was only 3 yrs old.so you can imagine how much they had grown. They managed to do a fair bit of sight seeing as well as seeing us most days . After the last months which haven't been the best for me as losing 3 close members of my family in less than 8 mths has been difficult but seeing family has been wonderful.
Weather is lovely at the moment but like most we could do with a shower or two for the garden as although we have had chilly days we had no rain.
I have caught up with everything on here now so know what you have all been up to lol. Hope you are all well and enjoying the weekend .
Take care all.
Ginnie
