Afternoon all

Thought I would post incase like ArgyyGran we dont have power tomorrow either.

Yep Storm Dave is due with very strong winds of pos 80-90 mph and....20 cm of snow as well. God aren't we the lucky ones...I think not!!

So we hot footed it over to town and got quite a bit of shopping to tie us over into next week and then on Wed I have a Tesco slot booked anyway.

The coop was very busy and even the manager was on the checkout lol. Never seen that before but it was lunchtime and staff were on their breaks, good on him for doing his bit.

So back home and so glad for that as the sky keeps darkening, the showers are heavy and its already very windy...we call that "the pre-gale" up here.

So batten down the hatches, make sure the pots outside are all secure including the bins, batteries and phoes all charged as well.

Joan, not sure if you will get the storm but make sure you have your torches handy so you dont get stuck on the stairs or elsewhere. Fill a couple of flasks tomorrow as well after lunch.

Apart from all that, fairly quiet here really. Saw some baby lambs in the next villages today and hope they survive the cold weather.

Right off to be busy with me chores.

Take care all

I hope that the storm won’t be too bad for you. It looks like it isn’t going to affect us.
I am absolutely shattered as I am just back from Lightwater Valley for the first time this season. Esme was in her wheelchair lol dy and she is getting heavy to push now. Some days she walks a lot, but not today. I think that she is tired as she has had a busy week. On Wednesday night she stayed in a hotel in Manchester with her mum because they were going to see the Wiggles at 10am. Last year when she saw them they were at York, but this year the nearest place was Manchester, she absolutely loved it

I hope that everyone survived the storm. On my news feed, I saw a photo of snow on Skye . It was really wild here overnight, the noise of the wind woke me up several times, but it is very clam here this morning.

ArgyllGran Report 5 Apr 2026 08:36

After all the build-up, Storm Dave passed us by in this area.
Thank goodness!
We've had a completely calm night, although with lots of rain, and snow to quite a low level on the hills.

At the moment, it's cold but not raining, and there's quite a lot of blue sky .

I had already decided not to go to the 8.30am Easter service (just a short one) down at the shore, but for those who are there, it's an unexpectedly nice morning for it, after all!

Happy Easter to everyone!

AnninGlos Report 5 Apr 2026 08:38

Good morning all and a Happy Easter to everyone. don't eat all those eggs at once!!!.

I hope all of you battered by Storm Dave (such a friendly sounding name) are safe. and that you were not kept awake. It was windy here in Glos when I went to bed, but removing my hearing aids solved that problem.

No large stores or garden centres open here in England so probably, if it is dry, a walk for some or gardening for others. It is calm and sunny here at the moment so a potter in the garden I think.
However you spend it have a good day. and, Linda, have a rest!!!

Afternoon all

Yep Dave also passed by us too but thankful for that! Ferries had rescheduled etc and met office sent us warnings but they all got it so wrong :-S

However, its very wild today with lots of rain and hails showers battering us but this is a gale not a storm.

Busy day in the house stripping beds, hoovering etc as too wild for a walk out anyway and its brrr too.

Making a cheesy potato pie for tea later as hadnt had that for awhile....comfort food.

Happy easter Sunday everyone.

I wish the storm had passed us by !
What a terrible night & it's still banging on, still suffering the strong gusts & the noise is awful.
I never slept at all in the night, I was in my daytime clothes all night & sat in the chair in the bedroom, as I was really scared.

The only "good" thing about it is that the power stayed on, very surprised at that.

They say it will peter out during the afternoon but it doesn't appear to be doing that at the moment. !

Daffies have been trashed but that's not unusual, I going to be busy in the garden once the winds have subsided !

I hope that you get some sleep tonight Joan.
After a wild night, it calmed down here We went to deliver the Easter eggs to the girls this morning, but on the way back there was a hail storm and it is still windy outside

Amokavid Report 5 Apr 2026 18:03

Hi Linda, it's still windy here, strong enough to rattle the roof slates ! but the sun has been shining for most of the day which brightened things up.
I am really hoping to catch up on some sleep tonight.

Joan.

Afternoon all looking in today

Sorry to hear you didnt get any sleep Joan. It is quite scary when you hear roof tiles rattling. Hopefully last night you managed to get a proper sleep and its calmer today.

Its still very windy here but only what we are use to!

Daughter away til Thursday so a quiet household.

Recyling bin has been and gone now and bin safely back in its place.

I do have ironing to do but trying to find some desire to do it lol

The tunnel needs watering as the plants now are all very thirsty and strawberry plants have flowers on... :-D :-D

Hope all is well with everybody

PS Did anyone watch Grace last night :-S :-S :-S
An episode called Capture You Dead written by a woman and not Peter James???

Wish they would just follow his books on screen and stop changing the storyline!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Apr 2026 12:31

I watched Grace and enjoyed it. I suspect like Vera and other series the majority who watch have not read the books. I haven't so can enjoy the stories. I have watched the older series of Grace on repeats that I have recorded, and feel that the first two of this series are better 'stories' than the older ones.

Hello all, I hope everyone has a a better night and the winds have died down. We were not really affected by the storm just had slightly higher winds than normal.

Garden is looking more cheerful now the plants are growing. We lost a few plants over the winter and for some reason we have had no daffs show this year. We didn't have many anyway but not one this year. :-(
Got the high planters ready for the veg when they are ok to plant out hoping to get a good amount like last year. Grandson came over last week and jet washed the patio slabs. It looks so much nicer out there now. I am really hoping to be able to spend more time in the garden this year if the rain is less than last year.

Hi to all.
I managed some to get some sleep last night, but I wasn't with it when I woke up.
I looked at the clock & got a shock to see it was almost 9-30 !! I got into a right flap,
After getting some clothes on I started on my breakfast & then looked at the clock, it said 8-50 ?

What an idiot, I had misread the bedroom clock, had actually said almost 8-30 i !!
It's been a long morning, I made Lentil & Bacon soup today, enough for 2 bowls, it passed some time, lol.

Pleasant day today, sunnyish & certainly much warmer, took a walk round the garden & picked up some things that had been thrown around, nothing broken, slates "seem" to be ok, none on the ground at least !

Daffies are looking bedraggled, the new Primroses that I planted a few days ago are ok & still in the planters, found a Pansy growing in one of the planters, wondering where it came from as I have never had Pansies in my garden.

I have our youngest coming from Lanark for a visit next week with her family, so I'm hoping the weather will be nice for them.

Joan.

JustGinnie -
you mentioned a lack of daffs this year.
I've noticed the same. Last year, I had a good show of the little tete-a-tete daffs, but this year hardly any.

I'm glad you managed to catch up on some sleep, Joan.
It's milder and more spring-like here today, too.

It has been a lovely day here, nice and sunny. I went to the supermarket this morning as we were very low on fruit.
We then met my daughter and the girls at a cafe in town for lunch. After that we visited the heritage centre to see their new exhibition on the Forest of Knaresborough. It was OK, but not as good as some of the previous exhibitions.

We then went back to my daughter’s house and I had a go in the hot tub with Esme. It was nice and warm, but the end where I was had seats which tipped you back, like a lounger. I didn’t like that, but half way through I discovered that I could sit sideways across the two seats, so I was upright which I preferred. Any way it kept Esme busy while my daughter cleaned out the fish tank. We were invited to stay for dinner, but we came home for some peace. Tomorrow I am taking Esme to Lightwater Valley as her mum is working again, so another hard day coming up.

Morning all looking in

Well its dry here but very breezy still.

I am hoping to plant the climbing roses today as they have been sitting in a bucket with water over the weekend waiting for a dry day to plant them.

We also went over to the garden centre yesterday and bought some pepper, cucumber and tomato plants plus some onions(mixed) so that will keep us busy in the tunnel. The good thing was, I had 2 garden vouchers for £30 and that paid for most of the plants.

Tesco due in 7 stops and then we need to drive to surgery and collect all the meds.

So a busy busy day here :-D

Joan, hope you enjoy the time with your daughter and family this week.

Linda, hope you have a good day at Lightwater with Esme.

Hope everyone else is fine today

Hi everyone.
What a busy girl you are Florence, always on the go with one thing or another
It was sunny here yesterday but the wind kept the temperature down & really spoilt the day.
The wind continued into the night & got much stronger from 8-00pm onwards, so fed up of all the wind we have had just this year !

It's dull today but no wind thank goodness, no sun as yet so looks somewhat drab & has put me off going outside.

I'm looking for ward to seeing our youngest daughter & her gang, not seen them for a while. I really hope the weather is going to be nice for them.

Joan.

ArgyllGran Report 8 Apr 2026 12:19

Yesterday was the most beautiful sunny day, and actually WARM!

With the warmth and a light breeze, the grass even dried up enough for me to be able to cut it. What a relief!

Today is cloudy and cool, and it rained during the night, so the grass is wet again.
I'm so glad I seized the opportunity yesterday!

I had a weird Evri experience yesterday.
I received an email from Evri, saying that my parcel was out for delivery - and I am expecting a parcel to be delivered by them.
Later in the day I received another email, saying that the parcel had been delivered, and with a photo showing the deliverer (wearing a jacket with Evri logo) putting a parcel in someone's porch - but definitely not mine.
(There must have been a second person there to take the photo.)

I had a "chat" with Evri - who said that the tracking number provided was more than 3 months old.
I also phoned them - but had to key in the tracking number, and their automated system couldn't recognise it.
I emailed the excellent courier who deliver Evri parcels locally, and they said the tracking number wasn't an Evri number, and the person in the photo isn't one of their local drivers.

All very odd! I can only assume it's been some sort of glitch with the Evri system, not only sending out possibly very old emails, but also sending them to the wrong person.

Meanwhile, the parcel I've been expecting is now out for delivery today - with a different tracking number, and obviously not the one in the photo.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 8 Apr 2026 13:31

Evri are an absolute nightmare AG. I despair if I am told that a parcel is being sent by them.
It is a glorious day here, but sadly it isn’t going to last .It was very nice yesterday as well while I was at the theme park with Esme. I didn’t put any sun cream on so the back of my neck feels a bit burnt. I will have to start putting cream on when I am out for the day

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 8 Apr 2026 13:56

I know many people complain about Evri, but it does depend on who the local courier is.
We're lucky here, as our local courier is very reliable, with lovely employees.
I've never had any problem with missing parcels before, and yesterday's weird emails are nothing to do with our courier.

But I do dread it if something is coming via DPD!
They almost always deliver to the wrong address.
