Morning all
Glad you are all sorted Joan and your snow is melting. Considering 2 days ago, we were snowed in and the whole place was at a standstill, today the rain gas been, temp has risen and 99 % of the snow has disappeared for which we are grateful.
My partner has to fly south tomorrow and had it been 2 days ago, he would not have got away!
Spring is just around the corner and the days are already stretching albeit just by a few minutes but once January has passed, we will notice a difference.
Gwyn stay indoors and keep safe and warm if you dont need to go out, best way.
I have plenty washing etc and other chores to do indoors to keep me busy.

Hi Florence. The power went off a couple of hours ago & i was starnded in my recliner, then the phone went & the chair tipped forward when i tried to get out of it (foot rest was up) It was my daughter checking on me & to say the power could be off until around 6-00. however it came back on a few minutes ago.
I would have got into my bedif the power had remained off for longer !
It takes a wee while warming up the house again when we have had a power cut, so I have pinned a throw around my shoulders for now as I am shivering.
I hope you are ok, did you get your shopping delivered the other day. Take care.
Joan.

Aw Joan, no power, thats terrible but glad it wasnt off long. Yes a throw is good. I have several fleece blankets and very often put one across my lap and tuck it in behind me so keeps me back warm as well as my legs.
No Tesco cancelled because of the weather so we had to trip to town yesterday to get some food. Roads were pretty clear but pavements in town were pretty awful. Thankfully they were pitting out stock so we managed to get all we needed ty.
Just made chicken satays for tea with mixed pepper and veg rice. Cant wait as something different for a change.
Hope everyone else ok and keeping warm

Hi again Florence. I couldn't believe it when we lost power, just another thing to upset me !! My food stock was way down by today, having to do last weeks shop a day earlier than normal meant most things had been used up.
I only had things that needed cooking & without power i wouldn't be able to do that, I had used up my last few biccies, crackers & bag of crisps yesterday. I did have some bread left that was a week old but good enough for toast but ...no power for the toaster.
Daughter was going to go to the shops & get a few things for me to make some sarnies & same for her own family but thankfully we got the power back.

What a relief that your power came back on, Joan!
I keep a small camping gas ring in case of power cuts, along with a supply of gas canisters. Very handy! At least then I can have a hot drink, or heat up something from my emergency stash of tinned food.
Like Florence, I have a couple of fleece blankets which are very cosy. Solar-powered lamps and torches are also very useful. I keep them on a windowsill, so that they're always charged up in case of need.
Your chicken satay sounds tasty, Florence!

Good morning, though itis FAR from good. We have got another shed load of snow dumped on us through the night, looking out I would guess there is at least 5 or 6 inches.
Yesterday I could once again see all the planters & seats & the roof of the house was clear of so much snow, this morning once again everything is hiddden. My daughter is due to do my weekly shop & pick up my pills today but I don't know what the house road is like, it's not going to be easy for her.
It' has been a long time since I saw soo much snow here.
Hope evryone is ok.
Joan.

Like AG I always used to keep a little camping stove and lots of lamps and candles when we lived at our old house. It was one of a group of ‘tied’ housing and we were always losing power due to the overhead cables. A puff of wind would switch us off. Certain weather conditions would make our oil boiler switch off. I also kept a supply of bottled water, as the in-house maintenance teams would switch off the water just as we were all about to cook the children’s lunches. We also lived at the top of a hill. Such a relief to leave that and buy a house down in the village. Gas heating, gas cooker and shops within a 10 minute flat walk.

Morning all
all clear here and the planes went today thank goodness.
Aw Joan, more snow!! I so hope you daughter manages up your road and you get your meds ok.
Names,I have loads of candles like you and plenty of bottled water too incase of emergencies. Given the rural area i live in, you always have to be prepared.
That reminds me all the rechargeable batteries that were in the xmas lights all need recharging so add that job to me list of things to do. I bought another charger that can charge 8 AA batteries at once and is fairly quick too.
Off to do some chores now but will look in this afternoon. Take care and keep warm all.

Oh Florence, it's a nightmare. Daughter has come over, she managed the house road upto a point & then was on foot to the house, she has grandaughter (14) with her, they have set out for town to get some shopping etc.
I am just waiting now & worrying that they reach the shops & get back home safely.
I can't help worrying about things like this, it's scary, I'm just a "silly" old wifey when things like this happen, more so since being on my own in the house.
Hoping others looking in are ok, keep safe.
Joan.

I know exactly how you feel, Joan.
Nothing used to bother me, even being on my own with three young children for months while my late OH was at sea. But now, even though I enjoy living on my own, anything going wrong throws me into a tizzy, and I start catastrophising.
And then I panic about my blood pressure soaring because I'm panicking, so it's a vicious circle!

When we lived ‘up the hill’ I was mostly on my own with the kids. OH coming in for evening meals and going out early in the morning 6 days a week. So most things were down to me. I always said other children’s parents would be surprised that there was a father around as they never saw him ( he doesn’t drive so all pick up etc were down to me).
I don’t think you have to be on your own to catastrophy. I always worry and my brain always goes to the worst case scenario - you should have seen me before my dental appt this week. I knew the news would be bad but felt sick and goodness knows what my be was like.
And then there is Trump…….

Hello Argyllgran, & thankyou for understanding.
It's hard isn't it, my hubby looked after me & kept me safe & now he's gone I find life stressful. When I saw all the snow again today I went into panic mode, no food, no pills, what if the power goes off again, what if I take ill, daughter gets cross with me but I can't help it. I relied a lot on hubby, & he never got cross with me !
The sun has come out but there is too much snow for it to make any difference !
The news channels are not helping either, constantly banging on about the coming storm, do they not understand how worried some people get especially the elderly. I have had to turn the tv off as they are not helping me with their weather reports !
Joan.

I hope that your daughter gets back with all your shopping and pills Joan, you don’t seem to be having much luck recently.
I have been out to my slimming class this morning and it is still bitterly cold, only one degree. I will stay put for the rest of the day and catch up with the washing.
I read every night in bed using my kindle, but OH goes to the library and gets two books out a week. He came back with Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club, which I have wanted to read for a while, so I have been reading that during the day I prefer my kindle for reading in bed as it is much lighter than having to hold a heavy book. I read very quickly, so get through lots of books , I have a monthly Amazon kindle subscription as it is much cheaper than buying books separately. I know that I could borrow books for free from the library , but as I prefer to read in bed , the kindle is a much better option. Not everything is included with the Amazon subscription though, the Richard Osman books being an example.

Hi Linda, daughter got my shopping so that's good, she went to the chemist to pick up the pills as arranged only to be told the del guy had left with them !! Daughter told chemist person that there should be no problem delivering them as the road was passable & that she had used it 3 or 4 times today.
No pills as yet !!

I hope your pills turn up Joan. That reminded me that I need to order ours, so I will do that after this post. I hadn’t intended going out again, but the storm forecast is bad for this evening and tomorrow, so I went to Morrisons this afternoon rather than in the morning. The shelves were really empty, but I got most things I needed. It is bitterly cold, so I am glad to be back.
