Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 18 Jun 2014 05:42

Huia, this day of testing is only to confirm the situation and see how far it's progressed, it shouldn't happen too often but my cousin who also has glaucoma just has to be checked every 6 months, and uses drops (daily I think) If it hadn't been caught in time it would have meant tunnel vision and then blindness. There is the beginning of a cataract in the other eye. I love to read and am glad to be driving so would hate to have further problems stopping me reading or driving or watching tv etc, our sight is so precious isn't it?

Brenda, good luck with your colonoscopy and hope your new roadie enjoys making new friends as he helps you with your band.

Entertaining the elderly is what my late Uncle by marriage used to say when he took his organ out to residential homes and sheltered housing complexes to play and sing along to, he was older than all of them, bless him!

Bob, thanks, have replied.

O.h. bussed to work on Tuesday at 1pm, and I remembered to pick him up at 10pm, will do the same today and tomorrow so I can have car and get out and about while he is at work. Just as long as I don't leave him standing outside work at the end of his shift.

Liz, I have had glaucoma for quite a few years now. I didn't have hourly pressure tests. I do have eyedrops to use to keep it under control.

Like that Liz...entertaining the elderly!!
Think we're older than some we entertain?
Thursday afternoon we are there again at their party with the mayor etc for the 3 rd anniversary of opening.
I have enlisted a roadie.....a chap I have been taking to see the band we go to.He is only 53,was a carer for his mum and dad for 20 yrs but it has left him with depression,so am trying to get him feel his self worth by helping us load the instruments etc.
You would laugh when I take 4 plus me in my small car..have to find the slimmest to go in the back and put their coats in the boot...causes some laughs though.
I have a hospital appt in July for a follow up colonoscopy...it's the prep I don't like!!,but think its good that they keep things in check.
Good luck with eye appt.
Brenda xx

thanks Brenda, have my day at hospital in mid July to think about now.

I have the beginnings of glaucoma in my right eye so have to go back for hourly pressure tests from 8am to 5pm. Hopefully will just be drops and check ups to keep things under control. Thank you to my optician for flagging up the problem.

Hope things are going ok for you Brenda, and you are still enjoying entertaining the elderly!!

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 16 Jun 2014 06:01

Well we got through the week without me killing o.h. or him doing anything really silly. He did try to do too much on a couple of occasions but paid later feeling tired. He is planning on returning to work later today, but with someone with him to do heavy work and him doing the small stuff or advising.

We had a day out at the coast on Thursday when it was lovely and warm, I had to do all the driving but enjoyed the sea air and sunshine.

Just glad the op is over and done with and healing seems to be going well.

He was cheered by the fact that he finally got the settlement from the insurance company after his accident a year ago that caused our holiday to be cancelled. Now we can arrange something else and hope that goes to plan. Plenty of money to pay for a nice break, he got about £3000 for the pain and hassle of the injury etc and all his lost earnings and such paid out too.

Just hope we can have a calm and uneventful time in future, no more accidents or dramas or ops!

Thanks for the support folks,

Lizx

The patient had a restful day Monday, altho is suffering the sensitivity problem mentioned. I am keeping well away, lol, I did manage a trip out yesterday afternoon leaving him watching tv, and treated myself to a wonderful bouquet of flowers reduced from £10 to £2.50 in Tesco, a stargazer lily, two fragrant pale pink peonies, pink carnations, white chrysanths, and three pink gerberas. I put them in with the other bunch I got reduced on Friday, lilac irises,3 white roses, 4 pink roses, and they look gorgeous, all for £3.50!!! thanks Tescos!

Am planning another escape later today and if the weather stays as lovely as it was yesterday, will suggest a trip out on Thursday or Friday so I don't have to cook lol

Thanks for all advice and support.

He told me yesterday that before he went in he had a premonition he wouldn't live through the anaesthetic and was terrified, so was surprised to come round and find the op was over and he was still in the land of the living! I could have told him he was under more threat from me after the op if he hadn't behaved yesterday, after Sunday's fiasco!

Scozz, the op was done purely for practical purposes, nothing to do with me!!!!!

A thought for you Liz.......... are you prepared for the first "trial run"??

:-D :-D :-D :-D

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 9 Jun 2014 04:05

Scozz, he is such a dope! When there was the first mention of the op, he wasn't going to tell his works, but just take a day's holiday for the op and then go back to work!!!! Then I read the paperwork the hospital gave him and showed him that he would need to take at least a week off, and then at least a week without heavy manual labour! He works as an electrical technician fixing and maintaining computerised machines that make corrugated cardboard so has sometimes to squeeze into small spaces when machines are turned off to make repairs or adjustments. Not the sort of thing you want to be doing after a sensitive op.

He also seemed to think that the bandage would be only for the first day and then it would be ok, he is the sort of man you can't tell anything, he thinks he knows best and rebels against all authority and officialdom. Pigheaded isn't the word. I hadn't realised we had no bandages left, not sure when he used them up. Maybe they are somewhere else in his house that I haven't found yet!

I did ask him if they gave him the leftovers to keep, his face said it all! He is a very squeamish individual, normally I am not but I did draw the line at dressing the altered appendage!

oh well, wonder what today will bring.

I did have a bit of luck on Saturday and won £25 on the lottery, wish it had had a few more noughts on the end so I could have hired him a nurse and taken myself off for a prolonged holiday lol

LadyScozz Report 9 Jun 2014 03:39

If he knew he'd need lots of bandages, why didn't he stock up before being snipped?

Because he wants you to run around after him? :-|

If he keeps leaking, wrap the leaky bit in cling-film & keep it in place with an elastic band.

:-D

Has he bought an album for the photographs yet?

I just had a thought........... I was given a jar with gallstones in it....... I know people who came home with pickled appendix, tonsils etc...... please don't tell me your OH came home with a pickled........ ;-)

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 9 Jun 2014 03:12

Scozz, he came near to being kicked in the dangly bits last evening. He wandered back in from his travels saying Oh I am kn/cream crackered and sat down. I was busy sorting out laundry from the linen line and getting dinner prepared. After a little while he said that he thought he might have to go back to the hospital again as he was bleeding from the wound. Hmm, hadn't we had that conversation earlier in the day? I just said Well you can call a cab and when you get there explain that you have been strolling about all afternoon and such instead of resting. That shut him up. He then told me the consultant said most people sat around in their dressing gowns for a couple of days letting the air get to the wound! Not sure I could face that when eating dinner lol He did admit he had probably done too much and then he started asking if we had any more bandages as the one he had on had fallen off I searched high and low for a new sterile bandage but all we had were crepe ones for support purposes. Not sure where he has put the good ones, but suffice to say, he has always kept a first aid kit of sorts in the bottom of the wardrobe. I did mention on several occasions that as the kitchen or garden were where most mishaps take place maybe it wasn't a good idea and would be better kept in the kitchen to save blood being dripped through the house on route to the first aid box. Anyway, couldn't find anything suitable and I didn't plan to travel round trying to find an open chemist shop.

I went to ask the neighbour if they had any, they couldn't find anything suitable as their grandson loves playing doctors so had used theirs up (they have written themselves a reminder to replenish their first aid box)

Then I remembered we had a small first aid kit in the car and lo and behold, a bandage. O.h. duly ministered to himself and the evening continued until it was time for him to poodle up to bed. He stood up and the bandage fell off!

Honestly this whole episode has been like a comedy film.

Uzzi, I nearly started packing my bags....... watch this space!

Roll on next Monday when he goes back to work I hope!

A (male) friend sent us an email recently about which is more painful, childbirth or a kick in the... er....... male dangly bits.

He said it had to be the male bits.

Because.........

A few years after having the first child, a woman is likely to say "wouldn't it be nice to have another baby".........

but a man will NEVER say "wouldn't it be nice to be kicked in the whatsits again"

:-(

Liz, hopefully your OH recovers well & soon, and you won't be tempted to kick him. :-D

Kitty, your second sentence spoke volumes!

I am spitting feathers at the mo. Due to my sleep pattern and circumstances, I had to manage yesterday on little sleep but with o.h. driving himself to hospital to keep his mind off things and save me one journey driving, I was able to drive the rest of the journeys safely. I left him to sleep a long time on his own during the night as I didn't want to disturb him or maybe accidentally crowd him while the anaesthic and epidural wore off and he slept through till 9am by which time I was asleep. He always manages to disturb me when he does get up, but I drifted off again and then was woken about 10am by him sayng he was a bit worried as there was a lot of blood on the gauze and what should he do? I suggested he rang the help number given and he was advised to go back to the hospital to be seen again. He knew I wasn't up to driving and said he would go in a taxi and let me know what happened, I would then get up and go to fetch him. Off he went, having had little to eat despite his diabetes (he had eaten well the evening before) and I dozed off again with the phone next to me. At around midday I woke to read a message on my mobile saying all ok and he would make his own way home. I tried to ring him back but he didn't reply so I got up and hoped he would call back.

Well he did, eventually (he is useless with his mobile phone) and said the dr thought he had moved about too much in the night, all looked ok and a new thicker gauze was 'fitted' I asked where he was as he should have been home by now and I was concerned. His reply, Oh I got the taxi driver to take me to see my Dad (his son who we visited last weekend was in Norwich and had planned to visit his Grandad on the way back from spending time with friends) O.h. had hoped he might see them ( yeah, that would have been a good idea, boisterous granddaughter headbutting him) but they had been and gone earlier than planned. So o.h. stayed at his Dad's sitting out in the sun, having a beer and a snack and then his sister called round who lives nearer to us, and would bring him home. I was so annoyed I went back to bed as I am exhausted and when I got up about 3pm, he was no where to be seen but the back door and gate were unlocked.

He sauntered in a little later, having been to the local shop to top up his phone. Not sure what other escapades he had planned but he was annoyed I was up and worried. He then announced he was going to walk over to the local park where there was a football tournament on, his son had played for the local team when younger and o.h. thought he might see some of the people he knew.

So, what happened to resting and taking it easy, and needing someone with him for 24 hrs?

He will be back in a while, tired out and will then sit in the chair and fall asleep till I tell him dinner is ready! No doubt he will have another cider at the park if there is any available despite being on painkillers and his usual diabetes and blood pressure meds.

So that's why I was and am a little sceptical and unsympathetic Kitty, when he is feeling rough later on, I will bear the brunt. I can't see that wandering about in this heat (yes it's a lovely day) will do him much good, but who am I to say anything, just the muggins who will get it in the neck when the pain starts.

Why are there no coffee shops nearby that are open on a Sunday lol?
