I don't read a great deal but when I got a tablet, ( mini Ip*d), a few months ago I wasn't sure whether it was such a good idea. Having just been on holiday and debating with myself, should I take it or leave at home I decided to take it. Not only is it useful for emailing back home, playing games whilst on a long flight, writing notes for later, taking photograph and videos, but also reading any books /magazines which are easily downloaded.

Would I suggest buying a Kindle?, perhaps no, but if the pennies stretch to a tablet I would suggest getting a tablet. If the extras on a tablet are of no interest then I would suggest a kindle . My friend took hers and spent quite a lot of time reading it.

I think they are ideal for fiction but I still prefer an old fashioned book for reference/non fiction as I flit about from page to page and wouldn't want the hassle of any computer when studying anything in depth. -j

I don't have a kindle.

But I do have the kindle software on my tablet so can still read all the books available to kindle users.

I love my kindle

I have two, the original one which OH now uses and my new Paper white one which is brilliant.

Being avid holiday takers, I couldn't cope with the weight of books needed for a two week holiday. I read paper backs very quickly, so would often run out. Even OH who was never bothered about owning one likes using the old one. Lighting in otel rooms is usually useless for reading, but because of the built in light in the new one, that is no longer a problem

It is also much easier and lighter to read in bed than an ordinary book

I always said I would NEVER own any Ereader, what it is the point???

Well a few years ago, I realised that I was spending an absolute fortune on paperback books, both new and from charity shops etc.,

So I decided to succumb. Well its the best thing I have ever done. Have slowly (and with much heart wrenching and wringing of hands) got rid now of most of my paperbacks. And the favourites are now on my Kindle.

I still buy books, but in the main hardback reference books, have loads on London and Bristol. Buy some hardback fiction.

I have the beginning of arthritis in my hands and the Kindle is so easy to use.

I think that many who are still against them, would probably not be so against them if they used one for a week.

I am a very fast reader (3-4 books a week) and now with the Kindle I seem to be reading even quicker.

There are loads of Free books and tons under £2.00. Apart from the well known authors (whose books do occassionally go on special offer for 1 day or so) there are many self published books, my favourites being David Robinson and Leslie Cookman and around 6 more. I would never have discovered these great writer if I did not have a Kindle.

So if you do not have one, try to prise one out of a friend for the loan of same for one week. I promise you, you will be surprised.

Also you can buy very good covers for them, they are really quite sturdy.

LOVE MY KINDLE - LOVE REAL BOOKS - both have a place in my <3

I wouldnt be without my kindle, the only drawback is, if I havent read a book quickly and put it up I can not read the back cover.

I like it because :

I can take it on holiday with 5 books loaded and not worry about the weight.
I tend to look after it more than I do a book.
I can read it in bed and its lighter to hold so I can comfy better.
I can read in bed wtih the big light off and not bother Itsmytelly
When I want to down load new books I can just go to Amazon and read the reviews buy and its there in a few seconds. Also I like the free ones.
I like it most because Itsmytelly bought it me without me asking for one.
:-D

I have a Kindle and have enjoyed using it, although I still read some paperbacks. I do miss the book covers and the information about the author with the Kindle, but wanted one mainly to help with my eyesight as I can increase the font size. In some paperbacks the print is just too small

I love books and have quite a few old ones I've had from youth, or bought on Ebay etc. Nothing beats the excitement of unwrapping a new hardback at Christmas (OH always buys me one). OH has a Kindle and uses it quite a lot, it's handy when he travels with work. However he still reads 'real' books :-D

I tend to read in bed - and the thought of 'dropping off' with a Kindle is unappealing. To wake up to a crease down your face where you've been lying on a book is bad enough. What sort of mark would a KIndle leave :-|

Ummm - I also collect books. The covers on the old books say so much about the time they were written/published. You don't get that with a Kindle.

AND you can drop a book - no harm done :-D

I've had one for eighteen months now - just love it - still read the occasional "real" book, but the Kindle is more practical

Personally I cannot see the point of Kindles.

I prefer a book, a hardback, the lovely dust jacket, the smell of the paper, and the 'crack' as you open the first few pages.

My friend has a Kindle, because she does not have the space for books in her flat.

Each to their own.

If you do not...why do you not have one??

Do you prefer books, is the reason that maybe they are too expensive ??

If you could would you have one?

Just asking out of interest :-)
