Just thinking about preparing onions & red cabbage for pickling.
On reflection, I might just leave it until tomorrow.

think I might be sickening for something here - I'm actually cleaning - if my DiL calls in she'll think I'm depressed!!! no emoticons either!!! sad face here

I went off apples about 1955 when I was about 13 years old. Where I lived most houses had an apple tree in their back garden and in the autumn we would go apple raiding.

I got stuck up a tree and shouted for my pal to help me down, I found when I got down that it was not my pal who helped me down, it was the local policeman. He skelped my backside so when I got home told my dad the policeman had hit me, my dad asked why and I told him we got caught apple raiding, needless to say I could not sit down for a week :-(

There were hardly any on that crab tree I know about this year.

The same with the wild damsons I generally have.

When I did my paper round ( I was 31 when I started it ) there was a woman who would leave a box of scabby old windfalls with a notice inviting me to help myself.

I didn't because there were considerably better available elsewhere on the round but she would be waiting by the door, waiting to show the box to me. When that failed she would be waiting near the door with a carrier bag full of the manky old fruit, daily!

It got to be like a challenge with me trying to creep up the path un-noticed.

This was before I came to the other woman who needed to tell me daily about her prodigy daughter.

I didn't want any apples Merlin...........so i just took the wheelbarrow.

Thats nice ,If you don,t want any take a few for the Birds,they.ll enjoy them. :o)>

When i drove out this morning, i noticed a wheelbarrow full of bags of cooking apples outside someone's house with a poster to say........Please help yourself.
