53 years and counting <3

Tolerance, not getting all wound up about unimportant things and being prepared to back down sometimes (even if you do still secretly think you were right!!) ;-)

We talk a lot, we laugh a lot. My OH is my rock and especially through what has been a challenging year for our family. We have our own interests and often go in different directions but that's one of the reasons we are still together - over 40 years.

Being each other's best friend and having total trust and respect for each other.

We love each other even more than when we first married 56 years ago <3

I love his crinkly face , I love him more today than yesterday and his awful fashion sense,
He sticks by me through thick and thin ,,, hugs me when the 'adult kids' get too much and come home (again) , tail between their legs,
he tells me I am wonderful and beautiful even after a breast cancer op.. and puts out the bins without me reminding him..

key to a long and happy marrriage/partnership?

You may have seen this article

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2449535/Does-marriage-depend-DNA-Happy-hormone-gene-key-wedded-bliss.html

"U.S. scientists believe a gene involved in the regulation of serotonin can predict how much our emotions affect our relationships
Found link between relationship fulfilment and gene variant called 5-HTTLPR
Couples who both had a short 5-HTTLPR had the most unhappy marriages
Those with one or two long variants were less bothered by the emotional ups and downs of their marriages"

What do you think, is it DNA? the influence of your parents marriage ? do you compromise ( or are you naturally placid so just go along with whatever?) is finding 'Mr Right' the thing, or is 'Mister ok' enough ?

edit...is there really a Mr or Mrs Perfect, or do people who say there is just exaggerate ;-)
