I have just been telling the Australian Thread that we are all set with picnic, deck chairs and blankets to go in the car to find somewhere dark to watch it!!! :-D
It is supposed to peak tonight between 2 and 4 am according to Breakfast Telly this morning!

It's 4am here.

I can't sleep.

So I went outside (in the dark) to see if there was any sight of a meteor.

Nope.

Thousands of stars.......... we have no street lights here, so the sky was brilliant.

Then............ CRASH, SCRAMBLE, BANG, THUD!

I don't know who got the bigger fright, me or the possum who fell out of the tree :-D

SheilaSomerset Report 12 Aug 2013 19:06

Going to brave it and drive up on the edge of Salisbury Plain later, away from the towns and lights.

Gwyn in Kent Report 12 Aug 2013 19:42

Neighbours had accidently left an outdoor security light switched on, so my dark viewing point of the previous day was rather too light.
I did try looking for a while, but perhaps not at the optimum time, so saw none.

*floats back again* :-D

The sky's clear here and forecast to stay that way.

Just about to nip out to get the recliners set up and find a few layers of fleecies.

:-D :-D :-D

Mr Magooo.......are you going through your book of jolly japes for boys and girls again? :-D :-D :-D

Kim, I've read that the hours before dawn are best. When is that at this time of year? I saw a decent display a couple of years ago around 11.30pm - it was a good dark spot. I'll be going out just after midnight tonight as that's when the street lights go out. Enjoy :-D

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 12 Aug 2013 21:34

I read somewhere that around midnight was good tonight.

I guess any time it is a case of 'watch and see', but I have seen them in other years and tonight is supposed to be particularly good if the sky is clear.

Perhaps if someone is lucky, they could post here soon afterwards and say which direction is good.

It's a bit cloudy here

Here a little fact for you though.
ASTRONOMER:
When you rearrange the letters:
you get
MOON STARER :-D

For Island.............

Stargazing.

There are 2 blonds sitting on a porch in Kansas looking at the moon.

1 blond says to the other, "which do you think is closer? The moon or Texas?"

The other blond says "duh! Can you see Texas?"

Renes

Renes Report 12 Aug 2013 23:14

Island

When you next .. float this way . - any meteors pass you by

Good job we are interested in genealogy .....and not astronomy

all we have seen is a

Possum .........................

Gwyn in Kent Report 13 Aug 2013 00:10

Seen about 4 in the short time I have been watching from the attic skylight.

They were roughly north east from this south coast area and high in the sky.

No need for binos. You will know if you see one :-)
