When I was little Fred told me that liquorice comfits were called rats turds and that is what they will always be to me.

There is an "Old fashioned sweet shop" at a local garden centre, a visit there will have your memories flooding back. Bulls eyes, Gob stoppers, Brandy balls, Pear drops ,aniseed balls, liquorice comfits (my favourite) coconut ice et al. I went some weeks ago and brought my friend, originally form Scotland some "Tablet" she was so delighted. OH loved the Cinder toffee. They are all in the old fashioned sweet jars displayed just as they used to be. I was chatting to the two shop assistants who said the nicest part of their job was reminiscing the older customers.

I agree that Wagon Wheels do seem to be smaller, I remember they seemed to be huge to me, my boy cousins always hung aruound me when we had them as they knew they would finish mine off for me. Also Dandilion & Burdock does not taste the same to me.

Errol,you have a terrible mother.

Have you tried lying prone on the floor screaming and hammering your feet and fists?

I have not even let Fred know about the Postman Pat van. He does have a packet of Penguins in the cupboard though!

Mersey

Mersey Report 28 Feb 2013 14:05

eRRolSheep Report 28 Feb 2013 14:05

terryj - I always thought a Freudian slip was a Victorian undergarment.

Merlin - I was in Wolverhampton only the other day.

Mersey - we have a stall like that here. It is like stepping back in time. My (aging) mum still won't buy me one no matter how many times I tug her sleeve. Come to that, she won't let me ride in the Postman Pat van outside Sainsburys either.

Sharron

Sharron Report 28 Feb 2013 14:01
