Now if you met one of our giant centipedes or giant weta you might have reason to feel uneasy, although the weta is actually rather gentle, I understand. Some people let them crawl on their face. But the centipede can give a nasty bite and make your whole arm numb for hours. :-)

Morning Everyone

Good New, Good News

I have now got rid of my "big boy".
Yesterday afternoon, sat at the kitchen table, I put my arm behind me to pick up a pile of crocheting, and happened to turn around. There he was, and I nearly put me hand on him. Yeeks, Yeeks.
Shouted for the OH, and suitably equiped with a small board and a container, he removed him to outside in the garden..
The thought of touching him still makes me cringe.

Sue In Yorkshire. Report 13 Sep 2012 12:03

Mau,
According to the Natural Museum in Leeds they are spiders that came over from foreign climes years ago on ships and bred with the house spider thats why there are very few small spiders around.
These hybrids come in between August and September to breed that is the reason you are seeing so many.

I hate the bleddy things so mine get massacred as I am the only one in the flat.

These hybrids don't bite so no need to worry.

Hope you don't see many more.

Sue

All clear for now *fingers crossed*......had a very restless night's sleep :-(....

Hybrids Sue is that what you call them? lol I have another name ;-) I have never seen any spiders like the 'wooden one' which was the size of a Swan Vestas matchbox ,(even the one I saw in Australia) this looked almost like an ornament.....50? 50? in one night omg I feel faint. :-0

My OH gets up for the loo during the night Marilyn,I keep telling him to wear slippers, but there again the spiders are usually on the walls, and they look even more fearsome as the walls are white!

I'll ask Oh to wrap 'em up and post them to you Island...they're ALL yours;-)
.....and that's why I get OH to catch them Jude for fear they escape:-0

I'm calling them the Sumo team Julia but it's my lovely husband who deserves a gold medal :-D as i honestly don't think I could go to bed with them lurking :-(

'we also suck in quite a few spiders during the course of our lives'..........well i've read that too Wend and I DON'T believe it!! ;-) it's a myth...now if the critters were moths I would be safe....wouldn't I? :-S

I'll be looking at the ceilings again tonight, and that doesn't help my balance problems.....

Wobbly Mau xx :-D

It's a ploy by spider lovers Wend, garden spiders love to build webs near them :-D

Wend

Wend Report 13 Sep 2012 10:34

Apparently when we're lying in bed asleep at night and sucking in the curtains, we also suck in quite a few spiders during the course of our lives :-D

If spiders don't like conkers, why are there so many spider-webs in my Horse Chesnut tree? :-S

Oh Mau, I've got one, also.
Saturday afternoon, got a piece of work out my craft bag, in the kitchen, and out he flirted. He crawled up the kitchen wall and clung on to the ceiling. He had vanished after that, but last night he re-appeared on the kitchen ceiling, but has disappeared again now.
I call him he, because he can't be a female with those hips. I think the name Rastas would suit him well, if you know what I mean LOLOL
