If Dizzi gets a mobility scooter it will need 'a dead man's handle' like trains, cos she can fall asleep in mid sentence. :-D

When you are used to having time alone in your house to do what you wish, it must be hard to get used to having someone there full time, especially when you do not have a good relationship.

Never mind Dizzi, just save the pennies & try to get down here for a week each month.

Anyone who has had any contact with someone who has Parkinsons, let alone has it themselves...knows that they would trade anything, ipad, art classes, a million £s , their home car and possibly their right arm NOT to have it.

To "count your blessings" is a hard thing to do when pleasures are being slowly sucked away from you.....

My mum left a list of her "blessings" in the back of her diary... she might not have swapped them for good health, they were blessings that can't be quantified like that ...but by God she deserved every one of those blessings she managed to find in a situation where many of us would give up...

It is so difficult sometimes to have enough money for retirement. I will just give you 3 examples.
1. I have a small occupational pension that currently pays me £105 per month. I got an increase from £103 last year to £105. This year it is underfunded so is being kept at £105 and not sure if there will be any increase next year either. Some retirees will only have one occ pension - and if with this company they are going to be struggling to meet their increased bills.
2. Mirror pensioners saved all their lives and Maxwell plundered their fund.
3. A senior director I knew quite well ended his working days at 58 with a £650k lump sum and a £350k pa pension. This would be about 1990. He had loads of shares, a big house and was very wealthy. He decided to become a name at Lloyds. And when Lloyds collapsed, they took almost everything off him - including his pension. I think he put his house and bits and pieces in wife's name, otherwise he could easily have been looking for a place in the Workhouse.

So a difficult and stressful retirement could affect us all - however hard we have saved and however comfortable we currently feel :-(

I think Dizzy does count her blessings that her Parkinsons hasnt made her an old misery. :-P

I think counting your blessings applies to mainly us who go though life without any of problems others have to suffer. :-|

However much help you get, Dizzi, it is such a change in your life. And at the moment you cannot see things getting much better.

Someone suggested helping with a food bank to me. That might help you and release a bit of spare cash to do one or two daft things. I think that is what a lot of people miss in retirement - the ability to do spontaneous things like go for a drive and look at a beautiful view with a cold glass of your favourite nectar. :-)

Yes evillyS, she should count her blessings, because with all her health problems, Dizzi still manages to have, what imo is the most important asset of all, a great sense of humour in the face of adversity and that's why we all love her :-P :-P :-P

Get back under your stone and have a good snivel :-P :-P :-P

The IT classes are not council run, they are put on and taught by volunteers.

Why has your IPad been restored to factory condition Dizzi?

I assume the cut in finance is because your OH doesn't have any pension except the State pension?

Are you claiming everything you could be?

Don,t forget to include a well stocked Bar in the shed. :-D :-D :-D and as for people just waiting for Godo, what about those who have no choice through various illnesses or lack of family.perhaps John could visit a few if he,s bored or even do a volenteer hospital runs for people.thats worthwhile.

Apologies for being off topic Dizzi.

In this area there are free classes for silver surfers at the community centre. I don't know how many take it up and of those how many will afford a computer, broadband costs etc. I have a 75 year old friend who did have an old computer but didn't replace it when it 'broke' she occasionally goes to the library to send e mails but prefers to hand write letters and/or phone.
To me the internet is a boon because I have a real problem with the phone due to my hearing problem. can hear some people really well but others hardly at all. It seems to depend on their phones not mine because I have a speaker on mine, it can be frustrating and would be depressing if I let it be.

John there could be a solution for you at your church. The people who are interested in family history, could you set up a group and help their searches with your computer? Just an idea.

I know a number of people who are better off who do as John says 'wait for death', and others who I believe will never die unless shot with a horse gun...lol, money helps some, but not all...but generally speaking 'lack' of money ages you more 'before your time'.

Re computers, because we all have them here it's easy to forget that not everyone has, or thinks they can cope with one... I know 4 or 5 older ladies close to my family, one does have a PC, but only uses it for emails, the others don't have one ( one went for a course but it was too 'quick' for her to learn what she needed) , they could afford it but the prospect of 'technical stuff' frightens them.
