When I go through the check out I just put the food straight into the trolley while I am getting my cards out. After paying I move off to some other place to pack them into my bags. That way I am not holding people up too much.

What annoys me is the people who get to the check out queue then decide to go an get some more things, leaving their trolley unattended in the queue. I once had the temerity to move in front of an unattended trolley and when the owner eventually came back and railed at me for taking her place. I pointed out that as she hadnt finished shopping when I got there she could hardly call it 'her' place.

No offence taken Trish :-). Much of my post was tongue in cheek.

Must admit I too get rattled when people block aisles to have a chat, then glare at you if you have the temerity to ask to pass them :-(

Its only a bit of fun Tec, no harm meant.
I am a pensioner and disabled myself,I do have patience with other shoppers, but this is an observation,by myself and a few friends, some I may add are males.
Its the stopping in the gangway that is annoying and blocking the way for others to pass.
As I said, didnt mean to offend, and this is a light hearted thread.

Mau Lol!!

Tec :-D :-D

I take my old man with me, although I do occasionally lose hime when he decides to potter off on his own. :-D

Oh so that the moan isn't only about shops, how about people who wait for ages at the bus stop then decide to hunt for the fare or bus pass once they are on the bus?

Tecwyn Report 28 Jul 2012 22:22

As one of the "old men" that apparently cause an inconvenience by endlessly and aimlessly roaming around the supermarket, I would just like to point out that we too need to eat.

Having not yet mastered the art of grabbing something off a shelf without stopping, I apologise to anyone that may be behind me when I do stop momentarily to place an item in my trolley.

Many things irritate us if we allow it to - as in all things, a little tolerance and patience would make the world a better place.

I dont mind about the delay in people paying,
poor mums with their crying children either,
what I hate, is when people leave their trolleys anywhere,
and go and get their shopping from the different aisles.
It gets in the way,
Sorry but old men are the worst shoppers, they roam around endlessly, stopping in front of you, good job they arent cars, bet many would have got shunted up the back.lol!!!
I think supermarkets should introduce traffic lights.!!!!!!!!!!
Now theres a thought. :-P :-P :-P

Maybe it's busy because it's the weekend after the last Friday in the month, so pay-day for some?..

Also with school holidays now, I bet some Mums thought they had plenty of certain items only to find that they have myseriously disappeared.

Thursday morning always seems to be busy in one town near here. I've even seen queues waiting for them to open.... I think the new offers are in store that day.

I just cannot abide people faffing around (OH could faff for the UK and win us gold medals hands down) The only man I know who when he says he is going to bed is still up and around 15/20 mins later still in bathroom!!!!!

Write a list (preferably in the store aisle order) and stick to it - you never spend more than you need this way.

Get to checkout - unpack TROLLEY - pack into bags as it comes along - you do not need to rush, in fact more productive packing done by not trying to rush. Less haste more speed.

Be aware of where your purse is kept and be ready to pay. Surely it's your bag and you should know where your purse is in there, I knew where mine was when I carried a bag and I can assure you I carried a very large bag when working.

I worked for many years in on Post Office counters (main branches) and I was always amazed that people would spend 10/15 minutes in a queue then get to the front, look for their books/purse then ask for a pen to sign. Then go through the whole process again while they put it all away and then have the cheek to moan about how long they had had to queue!!!! We worked out one day amongst ourselve that the queue time could have easily been halved if people were only a little better prepared.

The reason I never supermarket shop on a Friday or Sat/Sun is just for the reason that people who do work all week can only do their shopping at this time as I said in my previous post. Why shop then when you can do it a lot more peacefully in the week?

ChAoTicintheNewYear Report 28 Jul 2012 19:16

Sorry, Ann, that sounded snippy and I didn't mean it to. I've encountered people who seem to take ages to find their purse, although it never seems to be at supermarket checkouts where I'm happy to have the extra couple of minutes to finish loading up my shopping onto the conveyor belt as it's usually only me who goes shopping.

I'd also like to say that I'm sure that the vast majority of people who shop where I do are decent, honest people, who wouldn't dream of robbing my purse. Unfortunately you never know which people are which as they don't come with neon signs over their heads to indicate either way :-D

ZZzzz Report 28 Jul 2012 18:44

I'm almost always on my own when food shopping and keep my bag on my should while I pack, and the trolly is between the check outs so it isn't nicked while I'm not looking, I rumage for my card some times and it takes seconds, I often wonder why people are so impatient it's not like it takes 5 or 10 minutes and they might die or anything.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 28 Jul 2012 18:22

I don't think I advocated having your purse out and definitely not to put down on the counter but it is the people who don't seem to know where their purse is that aggravate a little (oh OK a lot) :-D

Another one who leaves her purse in her bag until the shopping is packed.

It takes me about thirty seconds to unzip my bag, find my purse and rezip it so some thieving sod doesn't stick their hand in my bag to steal my phone/ipod. It would take me longer than that to pack if I had to hold onto my purse while putting shopping into bags. There's absolutely no way would I put my purse down even for a second, you never know who's around.

Well we pack before I get my card out but I do know exactly where it is and don't have to rummage through numerous bags, pockets etc. I actually wear a 'bum' bag to the supermarket so I know exactly where my purse, card etc are. And I keep my hand on it too while shopping.
