SYLVIA - I am far from being an ignorant person regarding religious groups. I just get fed up with the same group knocking on my door on a regular basis. I do not have Catholics, Jews, Muslims or any other creed Knocking on my door trying to push there religion onto me so why should they be allowed to.

Eldrick Report 28 Apr 2012 17:56

Nope, I can't respect anyone who panders to such ridiculous notions and then tries to convert other people to their nonsense. Sorry, respect where its due and earned by all means, but honestly, to believe that only exactly 144,000 souls will go to heaven and that all humanity is sinful, that jesus became ruler of gods kingdom in October 1914.........please. Worthy of respect?

I'm more than willing to debate their beliefs with any of them, though!

Sharron

Sharron Report 28 Apr 2012 17:30

They are prepared for that but not for you to question them about religious doctrine.

It must be important to know if they adhere to the teachings of Luther or Calvin.

Wikipedia them and pick the bones out. It doesn't matter if you only know a tiny bit.It will be more than they do.

Redrobin Report 28 Apr 2012 17:29

Reading a lot of the comments is very sad and displays a lot of ignorance.
We do not have to accept each others religious beliefs or traditions but we do owe it to ourselves to respect each other.
There is always a polite way of saying,' No thankyou' and 'please do not call again'.
No need to disrespect people nor to run them down on this site.
There is so much suffering in this world already where religion is the basis of the arguments.
Who is right? Who is wrong?
Does it really matter? Who are we to judge?
Mutual respect please........does not mean acceptance of others beliefs.

GeordiePride

GeordiePride Report 28 Apr 2012 17:22

I just say to them "please go away" (or very strong Geordie words to that effect)

Good one Sharron :-D

I think you're right about them jumping in when people are vulnerable, I've seen it happen. Their teachings are not recognised by mainstream churches.

BC, I think you may have one of the many pentecostal 'house' church which are springing up everywhere. They tend to use buildings like schools and meeting rooms. I have a friend who left the Anglican church and now goes to a worship group in a cinema screen room with about 30 others. She really enjoys it apparently.

I think it is sad that they drag their children round with them at weekends. It is not something children should be subjected to.

It seems to me that Jehovah's Witnesses are always ready to jump in when somebody is at a low ebb, and not necessarily to give them unconditional support.

I was going to work in London once and stopped on the A3 for breakfast.A woman in the cafe had what I think was a panic attack. She seemed vulnerable and I was not on a deadline so I took her home, not far away.

She took my name and address to quote to my breakdown service, she wanted to join and I was in line for a present if she did. On the way home she had told me her life story, as they do. Her son was in psychiatric care, her daughter was in some sort of trouble, she was ill blah, blah.

Fine, dropped her off, had a cup of tea, went on my way.

A few weeks later a letter arrived. All the news of how things were with her family and a thank you. Also a JW leaflet. Well, I did not reply to that one!

They don't really know what they are talking about generally.Try asking them what their stand is on transubstantiation. That'll 'ave 'em!

I don't care who they are but a crowd of smiling folk arrive in the school opposite me every Sunday and I do my housework to the sound of their happy clappy singing. And they NEVER come knocking at my door! :-D

They only have this database so that they can baptise dead people into their stupid church. Me and my pals have un-baptising ceremonies every month then email their HQ to tell them we have unbaptised the whole parish of lower puddington.

Personally, for the johos, I just swear at them and let the dogs out if they appear here. If its the morons I ask them if they will show me their magic underpants. Works every time does that one.

MR_MAGOO Report 28 Apr 2012 12:53

I don't buy at the door full stop or on the phone.

Have to say though where would we all be if it wasn't for the Jehovahs Witness's collecting all the BMD's.......very much stuck i would think.

Edit.....stand corrected by AnnC.

Many of my rellies went off to Utah & joined the Mormons......... so when the white shirt & sober tie men knock on the door I often wonder if they could be distant cousins...... I'm not brave enough to ask.

We have one of those stickers in the window - Cold Callers Will Be Reported to the Police.

It usually works.

In the past we have told them "No thank you - we're Christians".

afraid I don't do "friendly" to JWs

The Mormons on the other hand are always absolutely charming - I was washing my car when they came along and they offered to finish the job for me!!!

Also, I'm a blood donor :-D

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 28 Apr 2012 11:27

get some "hippy" stuff........ like crystals and stars etc & hang them around your front door............ the God botherers will think you're a witch or a weirdo and think twice about knocking.......... or you could wear a pointy hat & answer the door lol :-D

I've got an ornament on the front of the house, I've been told it's very "pagan" - maybe so, but I bought it because I like it. It's a big leaf with a face moulded into it..... I've seen some of the god-botherers give it startled looks.

and.......... if I'm in the right mood....... cold callers....... I start yacking in another language. I'm not fluent - more like pidjin foreign - but can get by in about five. And I can swear in Mandarin (taught by a Chinese friend, who told me it meant "go away you're annoying me" - Oh NO it doesn't!) lol :-0 ;-)

They can be a nuisance, but there again it's nice to know that there are people about who believe in something.

They only call on me every blue moon and i tell them it's not for me and wish them the best of luck. They seem to appreciate the half friendly approach and dismissal.

Happy days

AnnCardiff Report 28 Apr 2012 11:13

It was JWs who caused me to add "no church groups" to the long list of people on the notice on my door - my notice says

we do not buy at the door
we need none of the following:
double glazing
gutters cleaned
new drive
trees lopped
we do not wish to change our utility supplier for anything

The reason I stuck JW on there was because they called on me very early one morning - when I told them they should not be knocking people up so early the woman said "Well it is the anniversary of the death of our Lord" to which I replied "I'm well aware of that thank you, I am a churchgoer"

Her patronising response was "Well I'm glad to hear that" :-|

My son's friend was warned by a neighbour "You're favourite people are doing the rounds" So he dashed upstairs and stripped off - when he answered the door they just screamed and ran. Never called on him since

:-D
