Sounds like an identity crisis Barbara, the jackdaw must have thought it was a homing pigeon. :-D

BarbinSGlos Report 5 Apr 2012 11:59

Back in the early 50,s my mum hand reared a baby jackdaw then released it when it was ready. But it stayed around the house.Mum cycled everywhere and to my huge embarrasment she could be seen going everywhere with the damn thing either on her head or her handlebars.

One day she went miles into the countryside with it in the basket on the front. She let it out. It flew off and she raced back home. Alas it was waiting for her when she got back sat on the gate.

Happy Easter everyone :-)

Jude, cetacea = whales, dolphins, porpoises, but I can't say I've seen any whales. I've watched gannets off the SW Wales coast and seen the other two - blinking not advised!
This is a lovely thread, as you say 'why didn't I add that to my list'! I keep thinking of more birds, all with different reasons and happy memories. Although I often make a note of what I've seen on a visit there's much more for me than just ticking. Watching and getting to know the behaviour is so interesting.

Has anyone had the manx shearwater experience? Now there's a call to give you the heebee jeebees!

Hi Barbara and welcome :-D Your Dorothy and Donald reminded me of a muscovy duck that I saw nestled down with her ducklings - on the pavement!
Must look out the photo :-D

AnninGlos Report 4 Apr 2012 21:43

I don't think there is a bird I don't like. Even gulls look majestic in flight when the sun shines on them. And when I hear them cry it always reminds me of seaside holidays when young. (Even in the middle of Gloucester)

Stephen.... You are so privileged to have Golden Eagles in your area - Wow

The last one I am aware of flying free in London was "Goldie" who escaped from London Zoo- in the 70s if I remember right
