Some years ago I had a drunken debate with a close friend Re: if you could change anything that has happened in your life would you? (courtesy of George Michael's Careless Whisper)

My answer was no...I think everything happens for a reason & makes you the person you are. There are a lot of things that have happened that I'd rather hadn't but because of them I have met some amazing people & made friends who I can't imagine life without. I prefer to think the bad stuff makes you stronger otherwise you're left festering in a corner-not good
I'm glad I kick myself up the butt & if I havent got the energy someone will do it for me.We live in a wonderful world-we just have to remember to look out at it, not in at ourselves all the time :-)

Rose I think your mum was in fact blessed in that she could see beauty in all things.
My blessings are my family too and even in our very sad times we've always tried to feel positive. Life is what we make it!

Mau xxx :-)

What a lovely thing to find in your Mum's diary, Rose. When my Mum travelled she kept a diary (which I have) and my favourite is.....'went to see BC's friends on a houseboat and had a lovely evening. We had shepherds pie, followed by apple crumble and pot'..lol.....my Mum was game for anything new! :-D <3

I suppose like 'counting your blessings' being glad is something we all forget to do at times , and actually it's not usually when things are at their worst because that is when you 'dig in' and make the most effort to be positive.

I found in my mum's diary after her death a list she had made of her blessings lol, very simple things like her family, friends she had had for decades, love of beauty and having a sense of humour.... and what her friends and relative strangers remembered about her was that they always felt cheered after they had spoken to her, even when she was very ill and her own life was full of negatives she could still make other people feel positive.

Good point Muffy. I know so many people who are so positive in the face of adversity, and don't use their problems in any way. My OH included I must say. You don't necessarily have to have been in a situation to be able to empathise.

Our positive outlook? He's alive, he was close to not being so. So for every day, every small achievement, we celebrate.

One of my Dad's favourite sayings was....

"I'm glad that you're glad that I'm glad that you're glad that I'm glad that you're glad that I'm glad" :-D :-D

I'm not long back indoors from helping my neighbour to have a drink. He has MS and cannot move any of his limbs now. His wife is his main carer, but she has a hospital appointment this morning, so asked if I could pop in and help him by holding the cup so he can drink through a straw.

They are both younger than us and I am very grateful that OH and I have reasonable health and are on no medications.
There is usually something to be glad about most days and health must be a major one.
