Hi island, i think the thread did start off as an olympic cushion thread. the woolsack link at the top refers to the cushions that they're hoping to make for the olympic athletes.

i think the thread has probably developed now into a general crocheting thread :-D

I did look at it as I'd love to crochet one day. still have some of my gran's crocheting needles - I'll have to get my mum to teach me one day. Just don't have the time at the moment.

That's my understanding of the thread too SRS...this is where the link sent me..........

I thought some people who enjoy crocheting might be interested in this site http://www.woolsack.org
I heard about this yesterday on BBC Essex. It's about making cushion for every competitor of the Olympics.

I have tried to encourage knitters and those who crochet to go on the craft thread but had no takers except Julia. theya re probably too busy knitting/crocheting.

"Personally (and it isn't a competition) If I could knit, I'd prefer the dog's cause :)"

You and me both...

Muffy, I'm afraid I'm another one who can't knit to save my life.

I actually have a knitting machine here that used to belong to my nan and I used to have a go on it but I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to work it now :-S

Muffyxx Report 5 Mar 2012 22:17

I've just done a deal off site with a *knitter* that I'll contribute towards the wool..so although I can't actually physically help..i can in a small way ....

So wish my nan was alive now...she was a demon for knitting.actually she was demon full stop but that's another story lolololol x

Can I just say this.

It has become the norm these days for Charity Shops, to sell wool. I do not mean used wool, but new wool that sells at cheaper prices. This, I would use for CRAFT projects.
Anything that needs to be washed on a regular basis, needs to be knitted /crocheted in good quality wool. The dog blankets for this project, therefore need to be made of this. So please knit them in a good branded name to ensure they keep their life, and it is not a waste of your time knitting them.
Good quality wool that has been made into a garment that is no longer used, can be unpicked and reknitted up. When you have unravelled the wool, wound into hanks, and washed, it will loose it's crinkle and be suitable for re-use.

Many Thanks

Attention all cat lovers - Battersea is also for Cats (my daughter's cat came from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, to give it its full title).

They also want knitted mice (squeaker and catnip - optional) - quicker, less wool and easier to post.

Link to pattern on their website: http://www.battersea.org.uk/about_us/whats_new/cat_knitting.html
