More similarities, before I went to Chichester, I used to go to London for long weekends when I had a boyfriend training as a chef in an hotel there, and we used to go to a club where Humphrey Littleton played, sometimes saw famous people singing, can't remember the names now, except for Elkie Brooks one time and we went back to her home afterwards, and stayed til the Sunday afternoon.

I had such energy then, as you say working and playing hard but such a laugh!

now I am off to bed if I can struggle up the stairs lol night night

Hi Liz

they were happy days weren't they?

Clacton had a Jazz Festival in those days .................. a group of us would go over for the late show, back to Frinton around 2 am, and then up at 6 am for work.

I saw Humphrey Littleton, and Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine (as it was in those days), and a couple of others who were not so famous ............. that gave me a lifelong love of Jazz.

Sylvia in Canada, I did a similar thing, got a train to London and then another to Chichester in Sussex and worked at a holiday camp for the summer season, was great fun and the best thing I did to make the break from home altho I did go back to live for a while and did temping while I decided what to do next. I had a friend with me and at Chichester station met up with all the other summer employees for the bus ride to the camp.

Happy carefree days.......

Hi! Allan. Nice to hear from you. I was living in Farnborough Hants. before coming to Australia but my home town was Walton-on-Naze in Essex. We came to Australia in 1974 so have been here a bit longer than you. I have been to Bunbury, but not lately, and not to Australind.

Sylvia

I didn't live or grow up in Frinton ...... I come from Lancashire.

I wanted a summer job away from home before I went to uni ............ so I got one in Frinton

First time travelling alone ...... I had to go to London, and then I think I got a train to Clacton and a bust to Frinton!!

and a drunken hotel manager and her paramour to deal with

I certainly learnt a lot that summer!

Hi Sylvia,

We are practically neighbours. I live in Australind, near Bunbury WA. Originally from Manchester but will have been out here 30 years in June 2012.

OH and myself are now retired, although not quite at pension age, but not far from it.

Allan :-)

Hi Sylvia,

His surname is Floyd but he taught in Norwich at the Hewett School in the late 50's and early 60's, maybe till he retired and perhaps it was then moved to Frinton. He has turned up at several of the reunions, the last one was about 5 years ago but I just looked on 192.com and he still seems to be listed there and no deceased records.

Sylvia in Canada.
I worked in Frinton Post Office when I left school in 1945, the day the war ended actually. Which high school did you go to? Not Clacton County High School I suppose, because that is where I went. Did you live in Frinton?
I do remember you from when I was on GR before but I don't think I actually spoke to you then.
Sylvia :-)

Welcome back Sylvia, my sympathy on the sad loss of your husband.

One of my old school teachers lives in Frinton, he used to rap us over the knuckles with a ruler if we talked in lessons etc, very strict but as he has come back to school reunions he seems much nicer lol He must be getting on now, well in his 80s I would think.

It's one place I have often thought of visiting but never got that far, I am in Norfolk.

I worked in a small private hotel in Frinton-on-Sea in the summer between finishing High School and going to uni ....................

that was an EXPERIENCE, never to be forgotten!

welcome Sylvia ..... we've never met, but I'm another Sylvia, and I live in Canada. I also have several friends in and near Perth.

Good Morning everyone. I am surprised that so many people know Walton-on-Naze. I often look it up on the Internet and watch videos of Walton and Frinton. It doesn't seem to change much, does it? Although we lived in Staffordshire and Hampshire during our married life, I still called Walton home.

Dizzi, I didn't know you were on my Facebook. Are you under a different name and are you a " friend " of mine?

Have a nice day everyone. It is going to be a hot one here today 34C. In case you don't know, I live in Perth Western Australia. :-)

Hallo Sylvia,

Pleased to meet you :-D.

Walton on the Naze is our nearest seaside town and I have spent many years visiting. We often park the car at Frinton, summer and winter, and walk to Walton, pop on to the pier and have chips from the chip shop in town. Its about an hour or so drive from our house :-D

Hi Sylvia.
I am from Essex and as a child spent many happy family holidays in Walton on the Naze, now it's somewhere I often go when I fancy a walk on the beach.
