Pancake mix.

I buy frozen Yorkshires because I can't make a decent one but why would you need ready made pancake batter?

I love custard, and gravy, not together of course.
Birds custard is lovely and is easily made.

There must certainly be a large enough demand for the tubs of ready made custard, gravy, etc.or the stores would not be marketing it - I would buy the packets as it is much less weight to carry.

I make lumpy custard in the microwave. And beauuuuuutiful custard from scratch. It is easy!!

I make mine in a pyrex measuring jug, but any jug or bowl will do.
Put the custard powder and sugar into the jug and mix to a paste with a little cold milk, make the paste about cream consistency. More powder for thick custard, less for thin runny custard.

Remainder of milk goes into small saucepan, on stove and heated. Put the jug and the stirring spoon next to the stove top. Boil the milk, watching it very carefully. Wait until the milk starts to rise up in the pan. When it reaches the top of the pan pour it into the jug. At the same time stir the mixture rapidly. Hold pan in left hand and spoon in right hand (or vice versa). When all the milk is in the jug keep stirring for a few minutes longer.

AuntySherlock,
We seem to have the same recipe, I love custard. In fact I just enjoy most food but not lumpy Custard.

Hi Bridget, Taught at my mother's knee. She also hated lumpy custard and used to smile knowingly at me if ever we went out to eat and custard was lumpy. Funny what simple things bring back the memories.

Carol, have you though of getting a Mouli grinder, if you could use it with your Arthritis. Mine is invaluable. I also have a potatoe ricer to save all that mashing.
You would probably get them at a good cook shop or Lakeland.

wrong person...CP.... ;-).

one of the worse veg to cut up must be swede,,,it needs a good sharpe axe to just get through the skin,,,,,,,,,,this I sometimes buy already done and just pick out bits that aint been peeled to my satisfaction,,

I dont have a problem with instant anything if it suits the persons needs.

Julia Report 22 Dec 2011 12:33

Kay???? - Celariac has the same difficulties to peel. What I do with both these veggies is to slice across the bottom to get a flat level. Then carve around the veg. DOWNWARDS all around, onto the chopping board.
