A capon is a desexed rooster I believe.
We have had turkey and trimmings, hot ham and stuffed loin of pork, roast veges with Christmas pudding for years at my daughters place with her in laws present.
Nothing unusual about that you are probably thinking except that in Perth, W.A. it is summert and last year the temperature was abominable, well over forty degrees. Not the climate for an English Christmas dinner.
This year we are having a selection of different kinds of sausages, salad and we haven't decided what else but it won't be hot.
I suggested a ham sandwich but the in-laws wouldn't have been in that.
Afterwards the family usually spend the afternoon in their swimming pool.

Always have had goose for nearly 40 years - however - earlier this year - had a Gressingham duck and it was delicious. So after a vote taken by all 3 who will be dining - we have a Gressingham duck, a 5 lb leg of lamb for Boxing Day (at the price of lamb this is a treat) and an 8 lb ham which will begin to be eaten on Christmas Eve! All safely in freeezer ready to be cooked by OH.

Capon disappeared late 60s/early 70's - something to do with how they were raised - on the human consumption side rather than animal welfare.

Julia, we are having a turkey, although Alun would prefer to have beef, he isn't too keen on poultry at all. My problem is that the rest of the family including myself like to have turkey for Christmas, so I also have a small piece of beef ( his favourite ) for Alun. Otherwise it doesn't seem fair that he can't have his favourite meat for Christmas dinner.lol!!

Love, Sallie.

What meat are you going to have for your Christmas Dinner.???
I ask this because, I have been traditional for years and always had a 'bird'
The OH and I went a couple of weeks ago to order a Goose, and when we got there, I could see the OH was positively drooling over a piece of beef. When I asked if he would rather have that than a bird, he nearly passed out with shock.
So, we're having a Rib of Beef Joint, already in the freezer ready to be cooked.
