Like Fairways our Christmas is often very warm. I usually do a sit down Christmas lunch with tomato and grilled haloumi cheese salad and prawn cocktails for starters. Then we have cold ham, turkey and various salads with my mum's trifle for dessert. In the afternoon we nibble on mince pies, Christmas cake and cheese and biscuits. On Boxing Day we have a lazy day and then in the evening my brother and SIL come over for a meal that we put together with our left-overs. This is actually my favourite meal as it's so relaxing.

We always have turkey for Christmas and ham for New Years, but as my son isn't fond of turkey I will do a small beef roast whenever he shows up!!
I do like the sound of lobster though . . . . but a leg of lamb would be wonderful for me but I doubt the rest of the family would be that keen.

And streaky bacon on top of breast also helps.

Yes Ann, I have done that, and it works. Stops the meat from drying up.

Thanks Julia, yes I will. I read a Jamie tip about putting butter under the skin of turkey, have you ever done that? It is supposed to make it moist.

Julia Report 10 Dec 2011 17:20

Sparkling Ann, I am sure it will be okey. Don't forget, those ratings are only someones opinion. How often have you had something to eat, and thought it was nice, and yet someone else eating the same thing, can say they did not like it.
Make plenty of stuffing, and sausage and bacon rolls.
Enjoy

OK I am really not looking forward to our turkey now. We wnt To S********s because our T***o only had Bernard M Turkeys and I won't buy their meat. We only wanted a really small bird as we didn't want to freeze left overs or waste it and it cost the same for our small bird as a much larger one. OK I know that is not unusual with turkey. What I am now upset about is, having bought a taste the difference one, I have just read a tasting report in the DM and S's only scored 2 out of 10 for their turkey when cooked. I had initially said we'd go to Wai**** but our only one is a trek away so we didn't. They scored 9 out of 10 for theirs, all the rest were much lower except M&S who scored 8.

All I can hope for is it was their cooking!!!

And.... This afternoon the lights went on the fully decorated tree, they had been up there for 4 days. :-( :-( :-( :-(

Our four can barely waddle across the lawn - look more like the size of chickens - keep chasing them off.

Good Morning George of Westbury,
I think those damned 'Woodies' must be flying between mine and yours, as I also have a pair. Perhaps the're at one house, then go to the other for 'seconds, becuase this pair are as big as bald eagles
As to cooking them, off the top of me 'ead, I would suggest a bottle of full bodied red, and loads of shallots. If you pluck and draw 'em, I'll cook 'em

Well ive got my eye on two wood pigeons that frequent my garden, they pinch all food i put out for the other birds. They then walk about with a smug smile on there faces as if to say im full up, little do they know what fate is coming there way.

PS can anyone tell how you would cook these :-D

It was a Fluorescent tube !!! not just a small light bulb !!
That tube lighting is nasty stuff to clean up , the tubes have a powder in them.
I did feel sorry for her when she told me as it was a big family diner !!

Oh dear, thank goodness that has never happened here.lol!! I feel sorry for your friend that cooked the dinner, all that work of cooking it and then to end up with a cold dinner in the end.

I hope no one does what my friend did one year , they had put the diner on the table for people to help themselves and popped the cork on a bottle which sent the cork up ......it smashed into the light sending glass bulb all over their diners !!!!
They couldn't eat any of it ,and ended up with a cold Christmas diner .

Sallie Report 8 Dec 2011 18:22

Yes that's true Julia, we have to be grateful and lucky that we have Christmas dinner....many people in the world would be happy with what we all have.

Still it would sometimes be nice to get spoilt a bit.lol!!

Love, Sallie.x
