Hi Barbra and all,

Did enjoy the programme today and although not much
cooking was interesting to see ideas and views of staff.
Like in everything in life if you have been doing a job for
X amount of years with no change then a lot of people like
it that way, but you could see the young lad was wanting to
cook but he got into the same routine as his peers, no wonder
he was thinking of leaving, soul destroying considering what
talents they all have. Ofcourse the powers that be have not even
thought of up dating kitchen or canteen let alone the needs of the
patients. Look forward to seeing the problems that come up tomorrow.

Hello,All well not a lot of cooking today .mostly costing & looking at farm produce in there own area instead of buying from outside sources , James restaurant looked very nice .in leeds .has any of you been there ?
see what happens wednesday .hope its more in the kitchen .Barbra :-)

I SPENT 3 DAYS IN HOSPITAL IN FEBRUARY
EVERY LUNCH AND DINNER THATS 6 MEALS
HAD MASHED CARROT & POTOTOE
ONE ICECREAM SIZE SCOOP,NO FLAVOUR
DRY AND POWDERY AND NO GRAVY,,

FORGOT MEALS ARRIVED COLD,

Mau....agree, yes the chefs probably are good chefs, just never given the chance to use proper food at Scarborough. Am amazed that chef had'nt spoken to the patients, had the other two l wonder?

I've just this minute googled them and ....T**** have them for 50p each...yikes it would be cheaper surely to break your own eggs.....

Think one of the women said the frozen omelettes were 25p

Most of hospital trained chefs will be good cooks,but it's the ingredients they're given that's the pity,and also no food that sits around for hours waiting to be served will be appetising,there'll be no goodness left......but their custard did look disgusting...................not like James who is very dishy..

Never heard or seen frozen omelettes....now that would be a challenge!

You should watch James Martin on a Saturday morning and see how much butter he uses.

Then got transferred to Bridlington for 2 weeks. Food was better but never hot when you got it. Small side wards and the food trolley was right down the end and we were the last ones to get served.

Could not believe all the tins,packets and frozen food used at Scarborough. Frozen omelettes YUK !!!

Wonder if James will do the omelette challenge.

Jude everything in moderation .margarine .looks like glue .love a bit of butter. have you ever watched Hairy bikers .they use butter in all there recipe.I think the chefs talents are wasted ..lets see what they can really make .& they should talk to people on the wards .one,chef who had worked there 20yrs .had never spoken to a patient on the wards ? Sorry you were in hospital!!

The food in Scarborough does'nt look very edible now....and all that waste and as someone said no real cooking involved.
The younger of the 3 chefs was keen to make changes and l think everyone else will soon fall into place.

Did you hear James mention how bad MARGERINE is....l'm always telly Vic this, he won't believe me. As James says its the way its made that not good hence the end product is not good either...yuck!!

Can't wait to see tomorrows programme!

The thing that upset me was not only the food that was wasted .but all the packets of soup & tins that would have to be thrown .using local veg.& farm produce would save money & the enviroment .looking forward to see how James Martin can turn the kitchen into a better place .less waste & good wholesome food .for patient`s .he looks a nice fella a well . ;-) Barbra x

Spent a week in Scarborough Hospital back in 2008.

Talked to the other patients before I ordered my meals and quite often had to order vegetarian. Do not like "proper" mash so avoided that.

Food was edible.

Loved the programme....so pleased l'm not a patient in that hospital!!

l do wish some MP's would have a few days in hospital, not private and not one that has had changes like Brompton, but one where the food is baaaaad!!!!

Annnd..... if only l was 20-30 yrs younger!! lol

I also watched it and could not believe that there was virtually no cooking taking place. I as most of you know came home last week after 2 weeks in hospital. OH did mention he would be back on the soup and sandwiches run as he was when I was in for 6 months in 2009.

I got such a surprise, about 6-7 choices for each course, cooked breakfasts available if ordered, hot meals were actually served hot, nicely presented and enjoyable to eat. Homemade soup, sponge puddings and bread puddings as good as home and custard of the right consistency and not a lump in siggt. Was awash with tea/coffee etc as trolley came around so often,. None of the 6 beds in ward had 'food runs', meals came in small, medium and large sizes. Only food OH brought were 2 peaches!

Hospital food is so important - otherwise how does one begin to regain strength after a serious illness/operation?

The Chair of the Trust came around one day enquiring after our welfare - as soon as I mentioned catering he pulled a face - I quickly put him right and told him to give the Head Chef my compliments. He then informed me that they were working from temporary accomodation whilst the kitchens had a major refurbishment.

If one hospital can do it then others can.

to how it turns around for them cause sure James will make
it work.

There is a prog on this week .about hospital food .James Martin is in Scarborough hospital .helping with ,menus`&,cost to help give patients` proper food .& fresh food .its.on 9.15.am bbc one try & watch it is very interesting .boy there is so much waste ,all at tax payers expence .ridiculous. james Martin not bad either Barbra x :-)
