Here There and Everywhere the Beatles

I liked the Beatles but my favourites were anything by Jack Jones, Helen Reddy, Don Maclean, some of Johnny Mathis and Rod Mckuen. In the 70s my daughter was mad on David Cassidy so by default I learned to like anything by him. But there was so much good music, music to dance to and sing along with then so it is really hard to single anything out. I am not a great fan of Rod Stewart but I did like his version of Sailing.

When i was younger my brother and i would argue who was going to use the radiogram first. The two records he played most were Lola by the Kinks and In the Getto by Elvis, along with others but these two were is favorites at the time.

I loved "I feel pretty" from the musical West Side Story' and still sing it, though not so prettily now.

Another one Ioved and still singing is Dream a little dream of me by Mamas and Papas

Beach boys 'Good vibrations' gave me good vibrations.

My music tastes have changed over the years but the same tunes haunt me.

Another one I really liked from the late 70's was Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights.

I managed to finda compilation CD of Kate Bush and it is now my constant companion on long car journeys

Dear Len

Hello

Hope you are okay.

Great post.

How could it have bombed before?

Here's a few:

"Daydream Believer", the Monkees

Sam Cooke singing "Twistin' the night away" and "Wonderful world". This song was used in the film "Witness" with Harrison Ford.

Almost any song by the Shirelles and the Ronnettes.

From the 1970's:

"Sing me a song" by Marc Bolan.

"Secrets that you keep", sung by Mud

I think I am going back down memory lane, with songs you could actually understood the words too!

Take gentle care
Very best wishes
xx

Then there was the Beach Boys, & Jan & Dean......

We have not long ago bought a new turntable - we have two cupboards one on either side of a dresser and they are full of LPs.... The distinctive sound of Gene Pitney, Simon and Garfunkel, that fantastic Aussie group the Seekers (hey there it's Georgie Girl) and yes there is a Jan and Dean and Sam Cooke, a couple of the Beatles - one with my favourite song "Norwegian Wood" and the other Sergeant Pepper LP..and any other music that has been on " The Cover of the Rolling Stone" have Dr Hook on video.

Great thread Persie

Hi Joan,
your garden must be doing so well because you sing 60's songs to them - is that right??
did you also listen to the Scots lasses, Lulu and Lena Zavaroni?

I am with Persephone - anything by the late great Gene Pitney. I have cupboards full of his singles and LPs and followed him since Tulsa in the early 60s. He also wrote for others including Bobby Vee (Rubber Ball) and Ricy Nelson (Hello Mary Lou), and I would go and see him whenever he was in the UK, right up until his death in 2006.

I also like anything by Billy Fury but sadly never got the chance to see him live.

What a great thread this is
