one theory i have is they meet while celebrating their birthdays down the local tavern.
They is the question of whether this is unique,i suspect they are other case like this..

Slightly different,if a sibling of a mother of an illegimate child marries someone around the same time, then that person might be related to the father of the illegimate child(admittely doesn't follow)

ah I see , so lots of serving wenches in your family :-D

I suppose that might work in very small villages, and as long as no one from outside the area happened to be passing through on 'the' night... drovers, tinkers and the like :-)

but I don't think as a general rule it works, it's also supposing that every baby is full term, and exact to the day.

I don't think either sarah lockley/thomas/samuel wiggins was full term(thomas/samuel wiggins was 8 months,1 week).

Allan mentions gravy,is that a place in hertfordshire?

Paul how do you know 8 months 1 week if you don't know for certain the date of conception ???? :-S

Thomas/samuel wiggins mother was baptised 26 november 1764?.
His father i believe is a swallow,so I spotted on igi a swallow baptised 26 november.
I figured that was similiar to his wife.
It makes sense to me.
I should point separately that perhaps20-50% of baptism were properbly same day.
(based on basing parish register 1760-1780 approx)

No,i can't really verify it,but it does make sense of why there is a george swallow wiggins registered 1841?

Intriguely both illegimate ancestors may have been cousins, only i have come across a case (sister of my granmother)where both of her illegimate children were also cousins supposedly(they also were cousins of my grandfather!)
