Not nice to mock someone when they may have trouble putting their thoughts into words :-(

Allan Report 24 Apr 2012 23:39

lol RR

the maths appears to be based on 9 month pregnancies to work out who is descended from whom

But this presupposes that you have the correct family in the first place.

I must be honest and say that with the help of another member of GR I've done something a little bit similar in my search for my granddad

From his marriage cert we know that he was 44 (if he didn't lie about his Age)

That is the first record we can find of him which may mean that he was adopted or changed his name.

We worked back to 1860 as his possible birth year and then going back another couple of years, we searched for all births registered with the same forename.

Then with the mothers name, I am searching to see if any of them married the person shown on the marriage certificate as his father.

Tedious and no result yet! :-(

I don't think there is a simple answer to this.....well i suppose there is really...........leave it to Paul :-)

Allan

Allan Report 24 Apr 2012 23:43

Sorry Sue, but if Paul only wishes to post once a year, and even then not really respond to the various posts...well

All he has to do is the same as others have done, just explain that he has a problem with expressing himself

Sue I am genuinely trying to work out the gist of it, I can see , or at least I think I can, that Paul is seeing a pattern...I just can't quite see it myself.

I'm not mocking Paul for his explanation, rather myself for not being able to understand it when I think I should be able to..

Just saying...... :-D

Hi RR

I think that Sue was having a gentle swipe at me over my fatuous comment about the Browning family :-(

Allan

Rambling Report 25 Apr 2012 00:01

Allan that sort of passed my by, whenever I see "Browning" I think of Robert and Elizabeth (Barrett) Browning...because my former boss was descended from the Barretts.. and so I go off on a tangent, mixing poetry and Elizabeth's dog Flush :-D ( now you see the way my mind works it's no wonder maths is not my strong point lol)

Let me explain martin lucas/ann lockley baptisms were on december 3 1766/1771.
3 december falls approxiametly 9 months before 28 august(1793) when sarah lockley was baptised.
Now in her husband case(thomas/samuel wiggins),he was supposedly baptised 3 july, wheras his mother was supposedly baptised 26 november which falls approxiametly 8 months,1 week before 3 july,i wonder if like sarah lockley, the parent baptism date might also be that of the father.
About a month ago,i looked on new igi to find richard swallow bbaptismed 26 november 1774? headington(thomas/samuel and sarah did register a george swallow wiggins in 1841?).

There are other possible ways to trace an illegimate child father where no records exist.

:-S still I'm afraid. It's evidently too complicated for me to grasp.

supercrutch Report 25 Apr 2012 20:56

ooooer Paul, I am still at a loss :-(

Firstly IGI records are only as good as the information supplied and I have found glaring errors on there.

I don't understand how you can speculate re the parentage based on baptism dates (unless you have more info or I am reading it wrong).

I have gaps in my trees where no father is named and without evidence in black and white they will stay as gaps. Frustrating though it is it does mean my trees are as accurate as possible.

Well, have to admit that when Hannah Evans (widow with 2 children) had a lodger (one Samuel Douch) in the 1851 census, and in 1861, Hannah Evans had 3 children, lodger still in situ, I got the birth cert of Mary Anne Evans (child No. 3 - my ggg grandmother) and noticed her full name was Mary Anne Douch Evans - I guessed who the father was!!!!

Paul

Paul Report 27 Apr 2012 22:08

Simply put,i worked out that the act of consetion(sp?) took place on the parents birthday/baptism day,so providing a clue to father's identify.
is that simple?
clever me?
