I always wear one. I put it on as soon as I'm in the car.
I've even been known to look for a seatbelt on a bus!

Nothing worse, as a pedestrian trying to cross the road, than to see a car 'jumping' or crawling towards the junction you want to cross because the driver is trying to put their seat belt on!
I don't give a stuff if the driver kills themself, but by their actions, they're putting others' lives at risk, and I have to stand there while the plank sorts themself out!!

Always wear ours. Dont like the back seat ones as I find them difficult to do up, but I make the driver wait until I manage it. The gadgets sold for helping with seat belts that catch your neck are well worth buying. Dont understand why they are not added to cars. Seen too many bad results as said.

legally you dont need a seat belt when parking( and I think that shunting comes under that,)....................but especially with automatics.............they seem to be most vulnerable!!
but if you are spotted you MAY be liable for a suspected moving traffic offence and are then liable to be breath tested.....so if you are at a party? and asked to move your car!! beware........!!!!

Always wear mine but o.h. used to be lazy about putting his on, and wouldn't do it till he had driven out of the culdesac or further, I refuse to drive off if he hasn't got his on now.

If you don't wear a belt and have an accident, your insurance claim if there is an accident will be affected, that's if you live, and you are also responsible for making sure your passengers are properly belted up, and you will be fined if they are not and you are caught driving with 'loose cannons' in the car.
I am surprised at you Stray, taking such a silly chance when it's so easy to put the belt on before starting the car, you aren't showing your son a good example and could leave him with a mum in a wheelchair or worse.
Please don't do that to him.

Our car beeps at you if you don't put your seatbelt on within about 20 seconds of starting the engine. (Unless the car is in reverse, curiously.) So I always remember to do it because it makes me feel like the car is nagging me otherwise.

The only time I sometimes don't wear it is if I have to move the car in or out of the drive temporarily . . . but it still beeps at me! (So usually I do it for a quiet life.)

I hope Stray will have this conversation on her mind each time she gets in the car!

Your little one needs you here. THINK!!

No apology for shouting.

I even put mine on for moving cars around. Who knows if your foot will jam on the accelerator etc, anything can happen in that split second.

When I first read this, I was going to say
"Yes, of course. I feel 'naked' without it"
But then I was called away to shunt a car off the drive and back again to allow another one to go out. Did I put the seat belt on? In this instance, no. My excuse is that we are at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and no passing/through traffic as there is no where to go! But any fiurther than that, and it deffinately goes on.

Stray, if you went through the windscreen and baby Satan was safe, he would have lost his Mummy. Isn't it worth wearing it to protect him from that pain?

KG, I am sorry for your loss, if only people listened to stories such as yours there would be more lives saved. I hope this thread is not too upsetting for you. I will remove it if it is.

I always wear a seatbelt (know what you mean about taxi drivers though!!). I used to work as a nurse in A&E - when you see the results of people not wearing seatbelts it does make you extra cautious :-(

I have always felt that seat belts were not
designed for women and in some cases
dangerous when driving. Agree it catches
on side of neck and like you Shirley have
big bosoms, uncomfortable.

Yes i always wear one. even though I have to keep pulling it away from my neck because it wont stay in place over my big bosoms!!
Have got it adjusted as far as it will go but it still rides up.

Always, if people who don,t had ever seen the result of some one going headfirst through a windscreen ( As I Have ) they would soon change for the better. Ann, You,ll have to be stood in a Grow Bag and be watered well.**M**,:o)>

I find that most belts are a bit uncomfortable because they are fitted for taller people and I am not tall. We have the cushioned guards over all our belts which helps a bit.

SheilaSomerset

SheilaSomerset Report 26 Oct 2010 13:16

Yes, I always wear it, whether driving or as a passenger. I have to say, though, that I find rear seat belts very uncomfortable as they dig in my neck and can't usually be adjusted. However I am very rarely in a back seat so not a huge problem!

I think van delivery drivers are exempt the law if they only travel 50 yards between stops.
