I always thought that unless you kept a detailed diary of your period dates, and when you had intercourse, estimated arrival dates were plus or minus two weeks anyway.

Mentioned this to Mrs IGP, who was a Pharmacy Technician, and she commented that anyone who tried to bring about a birth without medical supervision must be completely off their head. Leave it to the professionals.

Leave well alone until a fortnight overdue.

Babies do not read calendars and. as has been said, forty weeks is only the average.

Ours were ten days early followed by seventeen days late.

Suzanne, I agree with Theresa that a "due date" is two weeks either way but I can sympathise with the mum to be who just wants it to be over and done with.
I do remember from my own time (many years ago) that the natural way of bringing on labour was active sex (something to do with prostaglandins) but whether you want to mention this to your daughter or not is debatable.
Whatever, I hope all goes well

hey Suzanne,

havent been on here in AGES!

You prob already know this but pregnancy actually is term at any time between 37 and 42 weeks gestation. If mum/baby arent quite ready all the pineapple (bromine)/sex/curry even sweeps wont work.

Tell her to try and enjoy the last few days and rest as much as possible rather than tiring herself out with trying to start labour.

BTW raspberry leaf tea is unlikely to start labour. However its good for keeping the uterus in tone and therefore helping to make contractions (when they come) more effective.

If at all possible tell her to take gentle exercise (swim), nice warm baths (until waters go) and get her partner to give her a relaxing back massage.

I went over with nearly all of mine (6) so I know how stressful it can be. However I now know to let women know to tell people 'my due date is between 40 &42 weeks'' whatever those dates are!

Hope its not too long for you all now!

T.x

Hopefully your daughter has had the baby by now...

Nothing worked for me and I had gone past 5 due dates, then lo and behold my waters broke at exactly the time I would normally get up for work and I had my beautiful girl at 5.11 pm that day.

Best of luck to them all!

When hubby was in the army, the battalion was on a 6 monther in NI and one of my girlfriends was due the day her hubby was due home on 2 weeks R&R and she wanted the baby to be born while he was home. She tried castor oil and orange juice on the morning and then had a large curry for tea along with some wine then they had a bit of rumpy pumpy, ( well he had been away for 3 months lol), by 10am the next morning she gave birth. Good luck.
