hi
Mum was comftable when i visited, not too much pain, bearable she said.
The leg infection is looking better, but they still cannot operate on the leg
that looks like being done next week now, but until infection has gone - they wont operate - incase infection causes more problems, after surgery.

Have told mum about all your good wishes and she sends her thanks to you all, and says that you are a nice bunch to take time to think of her.

Julie ann - have taken grapes in - brother took biccies in, gues what she went for first?? Yep Biccies LOL Only the one tho!!

She has never been much of a knitter, and due to eye sight problems, wouold have trouble,

Deanna
She has in with her a radio, a walkman and a nother gadget cant remember the name of it, but you can down load books and music on it - something like a mp3 - but it is a lot larger.- all with headphones.
We have got her, in the past a lot of audio books and she has a few of them with her and some music too.

I had not realised that you did not get charged if you were housebound for talking books from library, will look into that and as she is registered blind,(very slight perifiral ? sp?) might be able to get them free of charge too.

She has been in contact with the local blind associatin, so will call them.

Am trying to rest, not been in long from work, am ok this week, next week on night shift, so visiting will be harder, due to shift timings, but brothers shifts next week are better - so we will cope.

Many thanks again for the ears and thanks for reading.

much apprciated

Liz

Hi Elizabeth,
How is she these days? any better?
She must be bored out of her tiny mind poor woman.
I have 'talking books' from the library, they do charge for them, but NOT if you are a housebound reader.
I found them years ago before I was diagnosed. I could not read because of my headaches, and the fact that I was no longer able to assimilate what I had read.

I would say that your mother is a HOUSEBOUND READER! ;-0)
They come in tape form and CD's too.
While I was in hospital my husband and son used to bring me in some books, they bought me a little Walkman (and a few batteries) so I was able to listen to my stories.
I wonder Elizabeth, if your mother would like to try that too?
It certainly does pass the time.
Although, I am quite a 'chatty' person and usually manage to make friends with anyone who breaths! ;-0)
I hope you are resting inbetween visits, and washing nighties for your mum?... a daily task, isn't it?

Glad you found your Mum chirpy Liz and hope she can work the gadgets so she can entertain herself a bit, to pass the time.
Let's hope the op can go ahead soon and she will then be on the mend.

Take care of yourself, especially next week when you are doing nights

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply. It is much appreciated. Told Mum about your good wishes sand she sends her thanks.

Visited Mum yesterday, her sense of humour - is better,

Spoke to a doctor, they are happy that the infection is getting better, and the ortopeadic (?sp) team, will be seeing her, hopefully by the time i visit this afternoon. Just hope that the op is soon.

Deanne, I hope that you are keeping well, It must have been hard not to have had visitors,

We had thought of getting a phone, (the hospital do have bed side screen - with phone/radio/tv which you have to get a card for and pay) - but unfortuneatly Mum has macular degeneration, and has only limited sight - periferal only, - she used to love reading, crosswords etc but now cannot see to do. We hae taken her radio in, she has a walkman too, for tapes, but at mo is having trouble using, she has a daisy wheel, from the rnib, for audio books etc which stopped working just before she went into hospital. Brother has got her another gadget which takes talking items and is going to take that in, and hope she can get to use.

Brother and I are both visiting once a day, most days at different times, to break her day up, Husband also visits as he can. As he works 12 hour shifts,
Mum has said to visit as and when - but still feel guilty if we dont, but next week, might have to cut down abit, as am doing night shifts, and last week when i was on nights - found it hard,

Sorry for the ravings again

Thanks

Liz

Hi Liz, I can understand your mothers frustration.
I was in hospital for seven weeks a year passed October, with a stroke.
while I was there I also fell.
We had a spate of sickness when our families were not allowed in to see us... that was hard.
My son bought me a little phone and set it up, so that all I had to do was press a button to call home.
It did a lot for my dwindling nerves, and it was one of those VERY Cheap phones.
Perhaps your mum could have one of them?
BUT, she is not blaming you or anyone in the family, I can assure you.
She knows that you need to look after yourself as well as care for her. So Liz, be good to you too, it is a hard job caring for someone in the hospital.
Good luck.

Still no news of the operation,
she was comftable yesterday, when I visited, and also in evening when brother visited.

Will be going in to see her in a few hours.
They are doing daily blood tests, to see how infection markers are doing, and when the infection is cleared she will have op.

Thanks for replies

Liz
