Sorry not to have added for quite a while. Mum is now home, and happy to be there. She is on crutches and has had a few things fitted in the home, ie armchair raised, a cage thing to go over the toilet etc.
She has been on the phone to family and friends and chatting away.
Am so pleased to see her get home

Hi Liz,
so glad your Mum is happier where she is now and hope she continues to do well and interact with the others around her. Such a shame the other patient wound her up, some people are so stupid eh?
It's good that you can get to visit her more easily too, take care of yourself as well

Hi Elizabeth, sorry I have taken so long to ask, but I have been having 'pooter' problems, and also been a bit down. Better now though. How is your mum? I should have told you that a blind person also gets the talking books free from the library, (although with all the cuts).... how long will we have the libraries?. They were an absolute life saver to me when I couldn't read. How does your mum get along with the little *electronic book *... I wonder if I would get on with one. Saves room in the house too. My home is littered with books. ;-0) Deanna X

Just to keep updated Last Friday, 9 July, Mum was moved to a rehabilitation home, and is much better, they are doing physio.OT and she is wearing her own clothes, and has her teeth in LOL She goes to a dining room for all meals, using a zimmer frame. She is talking to people, She is happier and looking forward to getting home - hopefully in the near future, although we have not been given a date as such.
We found out last thursday that there was a room free (She has her own room) Mum agreed to go but asked for us to be informed, She went in Friday, afternoon. She was fightened in hospital, not really knowing what was going on, and because of her eyesight problems, not seeing what was happening. Also having had the infection and then op, knocked her a bit too.
The lady in the next bed in hospital, was not helping - I know she had her own problems, but she was winding mum up something rotten, by saying that we had arranged all along to put her away!! So she would not be going home. As she had heard we didint want her. It does not help in hospital when people are calling out nurse every few mins, and say they dont want anything when nurse appears, hospitals are not the best places to rest when ill are they???? Anyway, we said no - it to help you with getting home, and to build you up, to make sure all is ok. Mum was stewing a bit,
but is def happier, am going to visit this am, enroute home from work, am on nights this week, and luck for me it's near to where ~I live and isw on one of the bus routes I can take and only 2 stops from where i change bus, Visiting times are more relaxed and am able to fit in easier with work too - Liz

Liz, that all sounds very positive, I do hope the original problem, the infection, stays clear and the area heals well.
Apparently Manuka honey is good for healing things like leg ulcers so it could be that it might help later on during the process if other things don't work, but let's hope it all goes to plan and soon your Mum will be back to her usual self. It's great that she felt up to having her hair done and that others are chatting with her to help pass the time.
I was in a card shop yesterday and they were selling some Christmas cards half price lol I suppose you could get some for your Mum and get her writing those lol, would keep her busy eh lol?
Take care, bet you could do with some rest in bed and someone doing your hair for you after all the stress and rushing about.

Hi purple liz
The original , problem, the cellulitis - we found out was actually erysipelas, a strep infection, = that cleared up, but had left a lot of nasty scabbing where the leg had swollen/blisterd, she still has some scabbing to come of, but the new skin underneath - is looking good., being moisturised daily, and blood tests are still being done, just in case, after the op, just to be safe.
The hospital, have a moble hairdresser, go in and mum had her haircut and washed today, and said that helped perk her up,
There are one or two people in the ward who now talk to her, although like mum, just recovering - but it does help. Take care liz, and thanks

Nice to hear your Mum is on the mend, what about the original problems she went in to hospital for?
I hope she can find a way of relieving the boredom somehow, and can soon get out of the hospital.

Hi Liz
very glad the op went ok and a wobbly tooth was extracted too, that was a good thing as she might have swallowed it during the op or recovery time otherwise.
Hope once your Mum is off the morphine or having less of it, she will become less confused and will recover well.
Lizx
btw blow the housework, you take care of yourself and don't run yourself into the ground in this heat and at this stressful time.

Went to visit mum again - earlier in the evening, she was a bit out of it tonight, - mind you we had woken her up arriving - bless her, she was talking/rambling about things from years ago, bit different to last night when she was laughing and joking, a bit, suppose that people recover at differen rates, and with painkillers - she is on morphine at mo, that does not help.
Managed a very quick ward with nurse and they are happy with her at mo, and I did managed to look at her hospital notes - briefly - to see that temp, pulse, bp etc are with in accepted range.
Hope that she is more with it tomorrow, she was a bit out of it when she first went in with the infection,
Something we found out yesterday, she also had a tooth taken out while she had her operation, apparently she had a loose tooth, which the surgeons decided to take out - in case it gave cause for concern.
Am trying to rest as much as i can, but am on nights this week, and sleeping during day this week, with the heat - not getting as much as would like,
one good thing though - good excuse not to get too much housework done - LOL

Hi Liz,
Well I hope your Mum enjoyed the cruise lol Bless her. I am sure once the anaesthetic is out of her system and she feels comfortable in the new ward, she will be fine, they will get her moving pretty quickly I expect - it seems to be the way of things now, no lying about to heal, up and at 'em I seem to recall with my neighbour when she had a similar op. It will ease your mind to see her getting better but what a shame she had to go and fall when in hospital where you aren't supposed to make things worse. Hope she won't try and do anything she isn't supposed to so she tumbles again, and also that you can talk to staff when you next visit to keep on top of what is planned for your Mum.
take care of yourself too, hard when there is so much to do but don't push yourself too hard so you get poorly too

Mum's operation seems to have gone well. Were allowed to visit this evening for a while, and she was still groggy after the op, and is on strong painkiller. At one point she was saying that last night, some of the patients were taken on and off various ships, and up and down the decks. LOL
We could not find anyone to talk to tonight, seems as if it was a busy day on the orthopeadic ward, Until Monday night mum had been in a medical ward, but was move in readyness for the op.
