Good morning all. 14 degrees , has rained but fairly bright now. Nothing planned for today. Not a good nights sleep as I just could not get off to sleep before 2am. No reason.

Hope we see Ann today and that she is ok.

Gosh Vera, you are packing a lot in. Lots of photos I hope. Sounds a lovely break, despite the shoe hunt. Have a good day tomorrow and I hope you have plasters for the blisters.

Its surprising how the miles tot up when going from one place to another. It sounds like you are enjoying yourselves though. Naughty oh not taking another pair of shoes with him.

SuffolkVera Report 7 Sep 2024 21:06

That’s good you found your nail guns Mel. At least you can be reassured that no-one came in while you were asleep. Perhaps you can find a way of making your shed a bit more secure.

Cynth’s lottery win will just about buy her a cup of coffee but it’s better than no win at all.

I hope Annx is OK but I expect she’s busy with other things.

Today we used the Hop-On Hop-off buses again as we had bought a ticket for 48 hours use. They are good as you get little earphones to plug in at your seat so you can listen to a commentary on the things you are seeing en-route, but it’s your choice. We decided to get off at the Schonbrunn Palace. Of course it was a hot day and the weekend so the world and his wife were there. The palace tours were quite expensive with timed entries and we would have had a long wait so we just did the gardens which were free, apart from a few special areas you could go in. There was plenty to see with the gardens, statues, fountains etc. and we stayed for 3 hours. The temperature was about 31 and everywhere was dry and very dusty. Coming back we continued round the other half of the bus route to get back to where we got on and there was some very interesting commentary to listen to.

As we got off the bus OH remarked that his shoe felt odd and we discovered the upper had parted company with the sole. I was so cross with him as he wouldn’t let me pack any other shoes in spite of the fact that he has several other pairs and sandals. So we had to try to get him some more footwear. It’s not easy finding a shoe shop in the centre of a capital city when you haven’t got a clue where to go. Eventually I spotted an odd shop called The Blue Tomato and from the doorway I could see trainer type shoes on a rack at the back of the shop. Cutting a long story short he got a nice looking dark grey pair but they’re not really a good fit as he had to get a larger size than normal to accommodate his wide foot. I suspect he may get a blister or two and I won’t have a lot of sympathy. I also think that when we get home these expensive trainers will be banished to the back of the wardrobe.

At the moment OH is poring over maps and leaflets deciding what we will do tomorrow. It is supposed to be very hot again but we need to make the most of the weather as Monday will apparently be cooler and wet.

EDIT. Although it doesn’t feel like it, with all our walking around during the day to and from bus stops, round the gardens, up and down looking for shoe shops and back and forth to a restaurant tonight, we have apparently walked 6.5 miles. No wonder my legs ache a bit!

You've had a good clear out then Mel ,I've got lots more I want to do ,lots of things I know I won't use or need so next week I'll do a bit more .

Oh Anng if only the lottery win had had a few more noughts behind the 4 , still a little is better than nothing .

It's been quite a nice day again ,little bit of sun and I sat out for a while this afternoon.
I finished off my Christmas Gnome but when I tried to take a photo it told me I needed to delete some files ,so I'll have to wait for son to sort it for me .

Wonder what Vera's been doing and what heat they have had .

Hope Ann's OK just busy I expect.

Ah that is good. But at least it has made you aware that it is vulnerable. Good you found them anyway.

I have just been to get my prescription and then we went to the garden centre for coffee, I bought 4 sedums as they seem to have survived the last year's weather variations the best. Then a short visit to local Tesco for a few bits and for Cynth to collect her 'big' lottery win (£4).

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Sep 2024 12:59

We,ve had a good clear out of lots of pc wires and rubbish out of the study. Got rid of loads of cardboard boxes which we burnt up, some out the study some out of the lounge. He has taken a load of stuff to the tip for me too and he put both lots of chickens food in the clean bins for me. So some clutter out of the study and the lounge and I have a free plastic box now to store things in too. A good mornings work and now I am going up the shop for my paper.

BIL is here and he has just found the nail guns so I feel a bit happier now. He had put them in a box and covered them up.

Morning all,

Very overcast here this morning and still quite muggy .

Off to sons in a while and I'll take the toms and cues I picked yesterday for them .

Mel thats not good if someone is taking things from the garage you definitely need a lock of some sort on there or chain and padlock, stand a barrow with things in that would make a noise when moved in front of the door or one of those hanging bells on the inside of the door and can't be seen from the outside so it made a noise when it was opened.

Vera it sounds as if your having a lovely holiday ,looking forward to hearing what else you've been seeing.

Morning girls,

When I woke at 7am it was quite bright so I thought I would lay there for a while. After dozing for a bit I opened my eyes to see grey skies once again. Same temp as you Ann 15degrees and pc says fog.

Anng the nail guns only work with a compressor and thats still there as its huge and under a table. Its not something I would use. Oh bought them when he made my chickens house.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Sep 2024 06:43

Good morning all early so still quite darkish outside. Temp is 15 degrees so not cold. I didn't dare go back to sleep when I woke at just gone 6 as Cynth is taking me to get my prescription this morning. Probably go for coffee after. Then Tesco this afternoon.

Can't do it today but next week have to make another appointment for a blood test as I had a message saying my recent test was borderline. Daughter rightly says 'borderline what?' I guess that is to scare me into making the 2nd appointment. It could be borderline pre-diabetic or borderline diabetic. Well the test could not have come at a worst time. after 2 weeks away and several meals out then the op and 2 weeks of ready meals and not cooking fresh meals. And now it is going to have to be not until I get back from son's.

Mel, that is annoying. Is anything else missing? Are you sure you have not loaned the nail guns to anyone? When did you last see/use them? Maybe fixing something away from the house where you may have left them? How likely is it that somebody would be down there in the dark at night? Would you be aware if they got in there in the day? Hopefully bil can help you find a way of locking it.

did we hear from Annx yesterday?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Sep 2024 21:24

You sound like your having a great time Vera al those places to visit. I too would have been in the Monet room with Anng.

BIL arrived today but did'nt do anything as it has rained heavily all day. I got soaked doing the chickens and getting the empty bins out of the garage to wash them. BIL is coming tomorrow and is going to put the two sacks in them for me. I have enough of the pellets left in my bucket for the morning.

Sold a couple more bits on Ebay today so I have those to parcel up.

Looked in the garage for the nail guns and could'nt find them so they have been filched I think and I don't like the idea of it happening while Iwas in bed. Trouble is I sleep so soundly and with the double glazing I would'nt hear it anything anyway. Also the staples and boxes of nails for them are down to two boxes instead of 5 or 6.

BIL says to get a paadlock to put on the door trouble is one of the doors has dropped a bit soit dos'nt close properly to get the bolt across. May get a change lock to put across the door handles.

Good evening all

I’ll have another go at posting but I am very tired so it will be an abridged version.

We had a smooth journey till we got to Vienna airport when we failed to find our prebooked taxi. Phone call to our hotel and a call back from them and it turned out our driver had picked up another couple with the same name as us and on the same flight. How’s that for a coincidence? Hotel said to get a taxi from the rank outside and the cost would be deducted from our bill.

Wednesday and yesterday were very hot. We did a fair bit of walking around trying to stay in the shade and go inside cool buildings. Yesterday we went into the cathedral here and also into a museum/gallery. That had several floors dedicated to one artist or one period. The rooms were light and airy and well set out. We went in the basement first where there was a collection by an American artist, Robert Longo. Annx, I think you would have loved it. He uses charcoal and his works are mostly huge. They are also powerful and meaningful. We were both absolutely blown away by the collection.

We also looked at another floor showing art from Monet to Picasso. That floor was quite crowded, I suppose because the artists are well known. I couldn’t believe one Chinese man. He took a photo of every picture and another one of the text that went with it but I don’t think he actually looked at a single painting.

Today was a little cooler with a breeze so more pleasant and we used the Hop-On, Hop-Off buses of which there are a variety. We got off at a couple of stops. One was a park. Apart from the usual grassy areas, lake, flowers and trees etc it was full of statues of Austrian composers and artists etc and a pretty cafe where we sat under a canopy and had a toasted sandwich. We stayed there about 3 hours or more.

We also stopped at the Votive Church. This was quite stunning but I shall have to google it as there was very little in the way of information about it

We are an hour ahead of you and I am struggling to stay awake after a day in the fresh air so I’m going to wish you all goodnight. I hope you have all had a good pain and stress free day.

It's been a really hot day and we sat outside to have our meal tonight as it had cooled down a bit by then ,I watered all the pots and greenhouse, picked three cues and a dish of toms which I'll take to sons in the morning .
I must remember to take a chicken out of the freezer tomorrow for Sunday, thought we'd have a nice roast this week as its going to be a bit cooler and showery .

Morning girls,

When I got up at 10am its was quite bright but its now turned rather grey out there. Its 16 degrees and looked to be a promissing day but at last its dry at the present time. Hope it dos'nt rain later.

Thank you Mandy yes I feel better this morning but hoping the day dos'nt throw any more problems at me.

Don't think BIL will come today to mow, I think its too wet.

It is ok today Mandy, you are lucky to have sun. It is like a dark November day here, although warmer. very drizzly damp, almost a fog, really horricle and depressing.
