Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Mar 2026 09:29

Morning Anng and all,

It must be so hard to not lay on your sore places Anng. I am sure the swelling will go down soon as the places heal. It must seem like forever but things will take the time they need. Did you say you have to go back in a week?

Dull and wet here this morning so it must have rained qite a lot in the night and at the mo its 10 degrees with rain starting in an hour. That means BIL won't come today. The place he sends the mowers to has arrived to pick it up yet.

Did all you others sleep well? I got up for the loo while it was still dark and lay for ages after trying to sleep.

Stu thoroughly enjoyed his meal last night and said he had'nt had pork for ages and its not something he usually buys. We had the pork loin, carrots, roast pots, cheesey leeks and broccoli both of us cleared our plates. fter that we had a piece of trhe Christmas pud he had bought after Christmas in tesco, it was a Tesco finest and was delious with lots of fruit and nuts in it. He left me a little bit for tonights sweet and I sent him home with the rest and told him how to cook a portion in the microwave if nobady else wanted it. We had it with double cream......naughty but nice.

Good morning all. Wet, wet, wet this morning and 8 degrees. So even if I could there will be no gardening foranyone here today.

Vera I like B&M, we actually used to have one in town but now it is only when I can get to out of town areas that I get to visit one.

Last night I realised that my eye felt tight still where the BCC was removed from my temple. when I looked in the mirror I saw that it is swollen and there is a large bruise. I suspect that is from the pressure he used when putting in sitches. I did feel him pressing down and, of course that skin around the eyes is quite delicate. I am hoping the swelling goes down quickly as it is not helping my sight as it distorts my glasses.

I did get some sleep last night but not really as much as I needed/wanted.

SuffolkVera Report 26 Mar 2026 21:09

Another busy day but I don't seem to have actually achieved very much. After the usual general tidy up this morning we went to our Thursday coffee meeting. We haven't been much lately and I think the same is true of a couple of the others but today there were 8 of us, and I did a bit of shopping in Sainsbury's as well. I am sure OH is turning into a rabbit - he gets through so much salad stuff I am constantly buying more.

After a late lunch he said he wanted to go to a nearby tyre place as one of the front tyres is slowing losing air and having to be pumped up a bit more. I decided to go with him. I thought they would probably say he needed a new tyre but we sat in the waiting area for half an hour and a chap came and said it was fixed now. Goodness what they did but it was only £36 so definitely wasn't a new tyre.

B&M is just nearby and I have only been in there once since they took over the building from B&Q who closed a while ago so I dragged OH in there for a look around. My goodness there was a big variety of stuff for sale. Some of it was a load of old tat but some stuff was reasonable quality for the price they were asking. I expect someone out there would love a giant sized bright pink plastic gnome in their garden ;-)

By the time we got back it was getting on for 5 pm so I threw some dinner on the stove and dashed about doing the odd cleaning job and giving the few indoor plants I've got some much needed TLC.

I hope Stu came and enjoyed your roast loin of pork Mel. I've got that on Sunday if I remember to take it out of the freezer in time.

I know what you mean about prices for eating out Annx. OH paid £7.50 for an ordinary black coffee and a latte this morning. All these costs are going up but the eating places in town always seem to be reasonably full though I have noticed that some places are now closed on 2 days a week rather than 1. I hope your OH got home safely with his puncture and can get it quickly fixed. What a very indiscreet postman but I did laugh at your OH's comment about blackberrying.

Don't go chasing after your get up and go Mandy. Let it run away from you. It will come back when you are fully recovered. The same goes for you too AnnG - you've had a lot done in one go so give yourself time to heal before you start thinking about jobs to be done. I hope you can get more comfortable tonight and get some decent sleep.

It hasn't been bad weather today; still very breezy but without yesterday's icy wind and there has been sunshine on and off. I think it may be a cold night so keep warm ladies and sleep well.

Annx Report 26 Mar 2026 18:21

Evening All,

Chilly this morning and breezy again but the sun shone all day. We called down the road to the nearest garden centre and had eggs florentine first and couldn't believe two poached eggs each on a split bread bun and spinach with hollandaise sauce plus a COT cost £27! No wonder places are less busy and people are not eating out as much.

We then went to the other side of the city to a carpet and bed place that was on the biggest industrial estate I've ever been on and I visited a fair few in my work in the past. Sadly the carpet sample I wanted to look at had been loaned out to another customer and the divan base I enquired about before Christmas is no longer available with linking bars! Apparently all the manufactirers are changing to cheaper, but awkward plastic clips you put on underneathe the bed now. Since coming home I've rung a few other places, and found two that supply what I want, but one charges £90 to assemble and take the old one away and I wasn't convinced he knew whether it had linking bars or not and another doesn't assemble or dispose of the old base, so I'm back to square one. Now OH has just phoned me from his meeting just a short distance away to say he has a puncture!! He thinks/hopes he will be able to get home ok, so we'll try blowing it up to get him to the tyre place first thing tomorrow, otherwise he will have to take my car to his meeting later in the morning.

On my way back from the village this morning I turned into our close as the postman in high viz jacket got out of his van on my right, crossed the road to my left where there is no footpath and a tall hedge. Next thing, standing well back from the hedge with no attempt to be discreet, he whips out his manhood and starts relieving himself!! I said to OH the man needs to carry a He Wee in his van. OH said, 'well you won't be blackberrying there this year then!'

AnnG it sounds like you didn't have a very comfortable night last night. That pulling can't be very nice, so I hope tonight will be better. It was sensible to rest and read today.

Mandy our Co-op had ordinary daffs reduced to 28p a bunch today, but they were well past their best with drooping petals and not lovely like yours. I hope you found your get up and go, I find it is something that is easily lost and you may just need to rest a bit longer.

Pork loin is usually lovely and tender Mel so I hope Stu comes to enjoy it.

Morning all,

Another bright sunny morning and that wind has dropped, we had a heavy shower just before we went to bed and a bit earlier we thought we heard some thunder.

Anng I hadn't realised you were having all that done ,I hope they soon feel a little easier for you and less sore ,a day of reading sounds the best thing you don't want to go doing things to soon .

Gwyn glad to hear you got on ok too with your mot and that they are chasing things up ,hope you soon get an appointment through.

Lovely photo of the butterfly Ann .

Vera you had a busy shopping day but isn't it nice to get a lot off the list although another list soon gets written again .

Mel hope Stu turns up tonight so you can enjoy your piece of pork .

Should be shopping day today but I haven't got any get up and go yet ,I'll have my cup of tea first then see how I feel .

Morning all,

Poor you Anng Lets hope they heal quickly so you can get some good rest. Stick to your reading and don't do anything silly to annoy them.

Its quite bright at the mo and pc says its 6 degrees but feels cold outside more like 2 degrees and mostly cloudy.

I wonder if STu will come today? I have a nice piece of pork ot of the freezer and going to do a roast. Its years since I cooked a pork loin joint and hope I get it right.

good morning all. a frost this morning but not a hard one, just on the roof tops. 1 degree now and fairly bright. I had a few hours sleep but it had to be on my back and with three pillows. every other position one or other of the places hurt.
I think it is just a qaiting gamr now
Not a lot I can do today without stressing one ot other place so it will be a reading day mostly. Even have to be careful typing as it pulls on my arms.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Mar 2026 00:00

I hope you manage some sleep tonight Anng but at least you have them all done now so I hope they will heal quickly for you.<3

Gwyn I too am glad your appointment went well. <3

I don't know where today went. I hoovered the kitchen and diner and then the hoover was'nt picking up well so I emptied it and looked at the brushes and it badly needed a hair cut so that took a while. When I emptied it again I found I could get the whole plastic cover off which I have never been able to do before and I must have had it for at least 7 years as oh bought it for me. Anyway it not as good as the plug in one and picks all the grit up but when you move it it all drops out on the carpet. I get lots of grit off the tarmac road outside the bungalow and up the road.

I am off now so see you all in the morning and sleep well all.

I like the butterfly Annx I had two of those in the shed when I was sowing seeds last week.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Mar 2026 19:48

I think as usual it is the stitches that will be the main problem. The one on my temple is pulling the skin on my outer part of my eye which is very uncomfortable. I have to hope that it eases after a couple of days. The stitches in my arm are sore too.

Glad all went well with your appointment Gwyn.

Annx

Annx Report 25 Mar 2026 18:52

Oh AnnG you had more done than I realised too, but they were quick in dealing with them all. I expect you will be a bit sore now, but it won't be long till the stitches are out. It sounds like the man you had this time will look after you better with any follow up appointments too. The butterfly is an old photo as it seems to be on some buddlia like one that is in the front garden. I was getting a bit fed up with the Robin!

I'm glad you passed your lengthy MOT Gwyn. Hopefully the echocardiogram will be chased up now. OH had to phone and leave a message at rheumatology today as they haven't phoned like they promised. Things don't seemto be getting any better.

You have a good selection of daffodils Vera and it must smell nice in your garden. It sounds like you got all your errands done and I would have enjoyed your lunch too. I know what you mean about those patterns as I don't like looking at polka dots.

We had a heavy rainstorm with hail just after lunch and it's knocked a few flowers off the red Camellia.

I shortened a new white plastic shower curtain for the bathroom and cleaned the plastic drawers that are now back in the porch cupboard and transferred more addresses into my bigger filofax. Doing some admin now and then an early night I think.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 25 Mar 2026 18:26

Oh AnnG, I've been thinking of you, but didn't realise they were going to do so much. It's good that you had that doctor, who will chase things up for you now. They are cautious about openly criticising colleagues, but you do get a sense, when they are not pleased.
It will be a good thing that today is done and over with.
I hope you manage to find a suitable position to rest tonight.

My visit to Canterbury was more of a medical M.O.T. and was quite lengthy, but I think it's been decided that I am doing OK :-)
The senior staff member did say that she would chase up the echocardiogram, that was mentioned in a letter some time ago. as there was no 'end' to that saga at present, so she wanted it recorded, what the situation is now.

Forgot to say... They wanted more blood today, of course ;-)

I also had to go walk-about with a trainee? doctor with a timer and a sort of trundle wheel, which recorded how far I walked in 6 minutes. I don't think he knew the layout of the hospital too well and I don't either, but I seemed to see the same stretch of short corridor many times, as we did many an about-turns and changed direction and kept covering the same ground!

SuffolkVera Report 25 Mar 2026 17:17

Oh Ann, that doesn’t sound much fun but at least they are done now. I hope they aren’t too sore and you can sleep well tonight. You must be good and take it easy, no bending over gardening. Thinking of you <3

Daffs do have a great perfume Mandy. I bet your house smells fresh and lovely. I don’t know why I don’t cut more and bring them in from the garden. We have one bed full of February Gold daffs with quite a few Tete-a-Tete in front of them. Several years ago we planted 50 Feb. Gold bulbs and over the years have been given the odd pot of T-a-T. Over the last couple of days I have taken off well over 300 blooms from the Feb. Gold and about 80 blooms from T-a-T. The later daffs are just coming into flower i.e 2 large pots and a trough of Silver Standard and 1 large pot each of Dutch Master and Tahiti. They all look glorious for a few short weeks, then it’s a scruffy mess till all the leaves have died back.

We went out as planned this morning and managed to be inside every time it showered but, gosh, that wind was icy and so strong. I thought I’d take off and I was ready to start singing Merida’s song from Brave, which granddaughter sings in Hong Kong. The very appropriate refrain goes:

I can fly, I can fly
Chase the wind and touch the sky.

We got everything done in town quite quickly (and very expensively!). OH came home with new shoes and a new phone or at least an old reconditioned phone which is a great deal newer than his existing one. I got new butterflies for my earrings and a new battery put in our glass clock and stocked up on some more birthday cards and we got a couple of keys cut. We also picked up a few bits and bobs in Roys. I saw a shirt in there that’s a style I like but they only had it in a grey and white stripe and as I was looking at it the stripes were going wavy so I decided it was a migraine waiting to happen and put it back on the rail. It’s strange how some stripes and checks are fine but I can’t look at others.

We went to a favourite fish restaurant in town and both had their grilled salmon with pan fried veg and baby potatoes. Their helpings are generous. I struggled through the large piece of salmon which was delicious but I had to leave half the potatoes.

Well, I’m wittering on as usual but ought to be getting on with a few jobs. I’ve broken my own rule and typed this straight into the box on Genes so I hope I can post it without losing it.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Mar 2026 16:11

Ann lovely butterfly, is that a recent photo?

Went in at 210pm and finished 3pm, one of the top doctors there I vaguely remember him from when they were at Glos royal.  He was very good, very caring and very cross.  The latter because he thought there were failings, it should have been emphasised by the surgery that they needed doing quite quickly, and as I mentioned these three when I had my leg done the doctor there should have done these at the same time. He didn't openly criticize but he did say, the normal thing is, if somebody comes with a BCC and there are others, those get done at the same time. He did also say he intended following this up and he also said I should have had a follow up appointment for my leg.regarding appointments he did say that there were patients who were prioritised but he didn't say who. It was on the tip of my tongue to ask if it was the opposite of prioritise for over 80s.
I had cut and stitch for forehead and left arm and 'scrape' for the right arm. 6 stitches on my temple and 8 on my left arm sterri strips and dressings on all three. and not to bend my head down to prevent bleeding.
Stitches to come out next Thursday.

Morning All,

Lovely sunshine and OH has been for a walk, then went to the shop as they'd run out of the orange juice he likes at the shop I went to yesterday. He used to have one of Asda's with the food order, but prefers this one and it has less sugar so is better.

Lunch is cooking and is salmon with a mediterranean traybake, then we need to go on an errand this afternoon.

That's a shame about the book as I said in my reply to your email with the beautiful bargain daffs Mandy. I don't expect they accept returns? Happy Birthday to your sister!

Best wishes with your appointments AnnG and Gwyn.

Vera it will be good to get those little jobs out of the way. They soon mount up don't they. I'm glad you mentioned batteries, as I need to get some as well.

Hope all goes well for Anng and Gwyn today and there's not too much hanging around waiting to be seen.

Nice sunny morning so far but we should get rain later, it's still very windy .

Hope all goes well at the hospital later Anng and for you too Gwyn ,hope there's not to much waiting around .

Mel , I think I'm not really in the right mind to start something new at the moment, you asked about the latest rabbit , I didn't take a photo of it and Katie took it home with her .I have done a few bits ,bags etc to go with the rabbits I'd already done and I've sewn labels on that I had printed .

My daffs have really opened up now and the smell is lovely when you walk past
Off to see my sister and bil later as her birthday today .

Good morning all. Very grey here and 4 degrees. I slept OK and got up just after 7am.

Thank you Vera, yes it is today and my head is full of nerves. However I have a morning to fill as the appointment is not until 2pm. One of my concerns is, knowing how chaotic the appointment systemwas with this, that 'they' only have one BCC mentioned when there are three. I did try and find out last June (It was 4 at the time but one got re-referred). Strange to want to have 3 done rather than just one I knoe but they need removing. Well I will find out this afternoon. Then the problem will be finding a way to sleep as there is one on each arm.

Gwyn, hope your appointment goes ok.

That is a lot of jobs to do Vera, hope you get them all done but don't go pushing yourself too hard.

Good morning
Bright but cold this morning though the forecast is for rain and wind. I slept OK for a few hours but I’ve been awake since 5 am and up since 6.30.

We’re planning to go into town mid morning to do all the jobs I have been meaning to do for a while. We need to get a couple of keys cut, see if a local jewellers can put a new battery in a glass clock and provide some tiny butterflies for the back of some very small pearl stud earrings, get some electrical bits OH wants etc. Once all the jobs are done we’ll have lunch out so that will save me cooking tonight.

AnnG and Gwyn, is it today you have hospital appointments? I hope all goes well for you both.

Been raining here but now its thundering down and makeing a noise on the patio roof.

Glad the pharmacy had all your meds Vera. was the wind blowing you in the right direction on the way home?

Mandy's flowers were lovely were'nt they and what a great price. I had some on the windowsill last week as something , maybe a bit of wind, had bent a lot of the stems on the bunch outside the bathroom window. I kept topping up their water but I must throw them away tomorrow as they look like Miss Haversham's flowers.

Mandy are you not pleased with your book? Perhaps you should have asked the library if they have it so you could see the patterns before you bought it.
