I was terrified Mandy and was certain I was losing him when I heard the paramedics saying 'stand back' several times, as I knew what it meant. As the paramedics were leaving one told me he would probably die later that day. Now he's fretting about whether I'll take a while because of the traffic and if he'll get a signal for his phone near the entrance to ring me. It's not ideal and I wish he'd had a taxi to bring him home, but he hasn't got a coat with him. I'm feeling stressed as I hate driving in the dark with my eyes and it will be busy with traffic from now on. I know he won't be able to drive for a few weeks, so I'm going to be busy ferrying him about too. I feel that modern life is just getting too difficult now or I'm getting too old..

It's a good idea to get the stair lift now Mandy and good that you have one sorted and the man to install it. It will be much safer for the future if needed.

Good news that OH is coming home Annx. I am very pleased for you both. I had not realised either that resus was needed. You are bound to be a bit worried and I expect you will be watching him like a hawk but he wouldn't be allowed home if the doctors weren't confident he is well on the way to recovery. Your OH is being sensible and treating it like a warning to slow down a bit. My best wishes for his continued recovery.

That chair lift sounds a good deal Mandy. You might not want to use it now but it will be good to have it in place ready for when you do need it. I remember a few years ago having to go to a photographer in town for a new photo but I can't remember whether it was for my passport renewal or licence renewal. I hope you get your licence sorted out OK.

Did you get to the garden centre AnnG or was the weather too bad? Here it has poured all day though it seems to have eased a little bit at the moment. It's just a bit breezy now but the wind is supposed to be getting very gusty tonight and be bad all tomorrow. It's apparently 7 degrees but feels much colder to me.

After a lot of fiddling OH managed to get our TV programmes back so he watched something last night and I got to see the news today. Regarding the remotes Mel, we have always had to operate with 2 as in our lounge, which is where we mostly watch TV, we have to play the TV through our Humax recording device. Don't ask me why but it's the same with our old TV and this new one from our daughter. We have a TV in the conservatory and that plays perfectly normally.. Anyway, there's 1 remote for the Humax, and 1 for the TV plus another one that came with daughter and may be something to do with the Firestick. I won't worry her till after the funeral next week and then I'll get her to come and talk us through it while I write down the instructions. I know it is just a case of getting used to something new but the old brains are a bit slower to grasp things these days.

I was still awake for a lot of the night but I think I did get a little more sleep so I didn't feel quite so bad this morning and we went off to our Thursday coffee meet. 10 of us today.

Oh my goodness, the rain has stopped and I have got a tiny gleam of sun through the window. It seems hardly worth the sun putting his hat on and coming out as he'll be setting at 4.28 today. I've got a birthday card to write and as the rain has stopped it seems a good time to take it to the post.

I don't think any of us realised Mandy.

Ann you will be watching him carefully at first but the hospital would not have let him home if it was unsafe. I suspect he will be having to wait around for any medication he has to have from the hospital.
G might well be nervous at being away from the protected environment of the hospital but you will be able to support each other once he is home.

Oh goodness Ann I didn't realise OH had to be resuscitated, how frightening for you .

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 23 Jan 2025 13:56

Afternoon all,

Very cloudy here first thing and now its spitting with rain .

Oh Ann that is good news that OH can come home this afternoon, your bound to feel a bit worried as it was a shock seeing him like that but the hospital wouldn't be sending him home if they weren't happy with how things are with him and he'll have been told what he can and can't do and I expect he will be a bit weary of what he can do too , he'll be glad to get into his own bed tonight it couldn't have been very comfortable trying to sleep in a chair , I hope you both sleep better tonight ,love to you both <3

Yesterday I made some cakes for the family and son called in this morning to pick them up ,he tried to renew my driving licence on line but for some reason it wouldn't let him do it so now I have to get a photo done somwhere and fill in the form , I don't have a pass port so I have to send my birth certificate and as that's not enough I will have to send the marriage certificate too and they won't except copies so i hope they don't get lost in the post ,why do things seem so hard to do now

Son came to measure up for a stair lift for Colin , we were talking to Colins sisters son and he knew someone who wanted to sell one so with a lot of messaging and photos we decided to have it but the strange thing is its only someone who works with son and dil at the school who is selling it as her fil died and they have to clear the house.
Colins sister has a stair lift and the chap who put hers in and services hers is going to take it out of the house and come and fit it here ,another thing is he fitted it in the first place in house for the other people.
At the moment Colin is fine going up and down stairs but when he had his water infection his legs just wouldn't go so it makes you stop and think better to get it done now rather than later and this one was such a good price we would have been silly to let it go so all being well it should be fitted on 1st February.

I think he meant it was his chest that's black and blue Mel from being recussitated with the machine. He told me not to bother about going to get food as he will be having a dinner there anyway. I have some eggs if he wants something and will see if I can book a slot for a delivery tomorrow.

Has your hail gone now? It's still raining here but the sun is trying to come out and it's starting to get breezy. I wonder if the wind's bad where Vera is yet.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Jan 2025 12:37

That makes complete sense to me and yes I did miss your morning post.

When they put oh' stents in they put them up his groin but they also put them up under your arm. I expect thats why he is black and blue. Oh also said he felt like he was going to pass out when they tarted putting the stent tube in.

I'm so pleased he is coming home and I am sure you will sleep better when he's back home with you. Are you getting excited now???? I bet you are and you'll want to spoil him once he's home. ((((hug)))) <3 <3 <3

Yes you missed my post as I posted just before you Mel. Now the doctor's been he's being discharged this afternoon. I'll be so pleased to see him, but a bit worried he'll be ok if that makes sense.

Annx Report 23 Jan 2025 10:34

Morning All,

It's pouring with rain here but the trees aren't blowing around yet, but I aught to push the bins a bit further round the corner in case they blow down when the wind arrives. I hope it stays dry for your trip to the garden centre AnnG. It sounds like you might be looking for some seed potatoes to grow this year.

OH phoned early today and said they gave him morphine for his back pain and he had to sleep in a chair last night. The beds are harder in the ward. When he had his shower yesterday he said he was black and blue. He's been able to phone a few people now and he's already planning which schools to give up which is good. Bless him he's concerned about effect on me and said to see the doctor if I need to, but I slept a bit better till 4.00am last night. I told him that you had all been very helpful and supportive as well as the neighbour.

Your soup sounds ideal Mel. Is it just veg or do you add any meat at all? I'm defrosting some turkey to have on sandwiches with salad later. I don't blame getting back in bed on a morning like this.

I was wondering if Mandy was ok too.

I have saved the curry and just had soup tonight . It was my homemade with lots of veg in so it filled me up and its all gone now.

I was going to say to turn the tv off for a while and then plug it all in again. I don't understand why they have three controlers unles its like my old telly in the bedroom which I can't work at all but that has a freeview box with it and two handsets.

I am going to watch Granchester after its finished on ITV does anyone else watch it?

Annx Report 22 Jan 2025 21:00

Thank you Vera, it's hard to take one step at a time at the moment, but it does help to be able to talk to my friends on here.

It's a shame you are having a problem sleeping and have a headache. I hope your body needs to catch up now and you will have a better night tonight. Nuisance about the tv channel seeming to be stuck. I did a quick google and the easiest thing to try was switching the set off and unplugging it for a while which you may have tried. The other suggestions looked more complicated for me, but your daughter knows the tv so will probably know what to do when she comes. The visit from your granddaughter and boyfriend is something to look forward to like you say.

Good idea to do the curry Mel, so you can freeze half if you need to.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 22 Jan 2025 18:08

Those tops on the bleach do vary. Sometimes I can get them off ok and sometimes I can't. I take a big breath in and hold it and go for it with all my strength and it works most times. Can't ever do it with my left hand. I must admit to not always screwing it on tight but I worry I may drop it onthe carpet and it will leak. I have even used wide neck plyers!!!

Did a little bit of scraping in the garden today but not a lot but every bit helps I just wish it would stay clear for longer than it does.

The birds have been feeding like crazy today and now I have Jenny Wren coming to my feet for mealworms as well as Robby. I can't grow them quick enough.

Sorry you have a headache Vera and hope you manage to sleep a bit better tonight. Have you ever tried the talking books? I used to get them for mum and they made her sleep well.

Just made the chicken curry so I may save it for tomorrow if Stu comes and if not I shall have it myself and put half in the freezer.

Ann, you’re not a misery; you have things on your mind and better to talk about them to us than bottle them up. However, as AnnG says, try not to let your imagination run away with you. Things are rarely as bad as we think they are going to be and you’ll be surprised how well you will both adapt to any necessary changes. Sending you a gentle (((((hug))))) <3

We are having some problems with getting the programmes we want on this new TV. Last night OH got into Netflix and watched a film. When I wanted to watch the lunchtime news I couldn’t get out of Netflix so OH had a go. He seemed to be flicking backwards and forwards on 3 different remotes without achieving anything so we gave up and watched the news on my iPad. Daughter will come up again after the funeral and go through everything with us.

I don’t know what is the matter with me lately but I just cannot sleep. I’m a comfortable temperature, I’m not worrying about anything and, apart from a few twinges, I’m not in pain so I should sleep like a log so why don’t I? Last night I slept from about 11.30 to 12.30, then I was awake till 6 am when I slept till 8 am. I’m still managing to get through jobs I need to do but I now have a permanent bad headache, though not a migraine thank goodness.

Just had a text from one of our granddaughters. She and her boyfriend want to come and see us in a couple of weeks and will stay the night so that’s something to look forward to. They live in Manchester and we haven’t seen her for about a year though she texts from time to time. I’ll have a headache after that visit as she never stops talking ;-)

I’d better get my pork casserole in the oven. I meant to put it in the slow cooker early this morning but I forgot to take the meat out of the freezer.

EDIT. Sorry Annx. I missed you there. I was probably typing when you posted.

Annx Report 22 Jan 2025 16:18

Thank you AnnG and you are right of course about my mind running on and second guessing. It won't help my tummy. As you say we could sort someone to come and do our small garden. I remember when we moved here, there were 2 ladies in the close who had help with the garden.

Fancy that woman buying so much! She might do car boot sales as well. The more they sell the better to help the Charity though.

I've spoken to OH and a nurse, who brought me up to date, and he has had a shower this morning so is out of bed now. He might be home on Friday once they are confident of his med doses. She said that in 3 months they will assess whether he will need a defibrillator fitted.

I went to update the neighbour who called round before and he said he was coming over when his wife came back from popping to another neighbour up the close who had had a stroke! They'd bought us both a lovely Peace Lily plant which was kind. His wife popped over after she got back. Their son, who is in his 40s now had a stroke at age 21.

I've had some soup and a glass of milk but may do the fridge tomorrow. I've just had a wrestle to get the top off some bleach, those caps with the pinch sides. I ended up crushing it against the worktop between the handles of the tin opener.

That sounds a better idea Mel, then you can manage to do it all.
