Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 16 Nov 2010 08:59

Good morning all,

Sun is shining on this crisp and frosty morning.

Went to Barnstaple yesterday and was there all day walking round furniture shops looking for light fittings for the hall. Looked at beds too and bedroom furniture for our room. Ended up at Laura A**ley and bought curtains for our bedroom. They are really lovely, pale blue with sprays of white flowers on beige stalks. Wish I had gone there in the first place as they had wallpaper to match and paint.

I was so tired when I got home we had cheese and biscuits and a bottle of red and went to bed.

We had those Angel Chimes when I was small Mandy. I also bought a set when my son was small but they were not quite so strong as the ones I had previously. I think the first set had red candles supplied with them but the second lot had white.

Still have some of those glass baubles with the dent in the front and some long pointed ones that mum bought years ago with swirling stripes down them. I was also given a set of Fairy Lights from an uncle when small and they had nursary ryme pictures on them. The cow jumping over the moon is the one I remember.

Made dolls beds out of shoe boxes and had an aunt who would always knit dolls clothes and dress little dolls in them and give us girls in the family one each for Christmas. Mine was all dressed in lemon and I can still see her sitting in the bed in my minds eye.

Made pot plants (ferns) out of toothpaste tube tops for my solls house too. Also the matchbox furniture like you Ann. Mind had those paper clip things for handle. The ones that you used to poke through something and then bend the two flat pin things either way to make them stay in place. Dad made my dolls house in the same way as our bungalow that we lived in. It had leaded light windows that opened and a door bell that rang.

I have to get off the pooter now as OH wants to do something with it as I keep loosing the internet contact.

Yes, I've still got an Xmas decoration with the Angels going round from the heat of candles (!!) It belonged to my Aunt who gave it to me years ago, I treat it with RESPECT!! I remember the first set of Xmas lights we had at home, the were oblong shape, and if one 'blew' the whole lot went out, and my father had to check them ALL to find out which one it was!! he never seemed awfully happy about that!!! I certainly remember making dolls furniture out of match boxes and all the other things you describe Mel. I can also remember putting our cat in my dolls pram and wheeling him about!! he must have been pretty docile!! Does anyone remember making Hobby Horses out of long sticks and with old stuffed socks for its head, buttons for eyes, complete with bridle and reins made out of bayler twine or whatever?!! My Granny was brilliant for making these, she made them for my friends as well and we used to have gymkhana's and races and all sorts. Today is sunny and bright so must take Millie!

I wonder why it is always cats that get put in prams and pushchairs Liz.One of my sisters cats spent hours being dressed up and pushed around in a buggy lol.
As for Tree lights!!!!!!! I hate the blooming things. They are the thing that make me all grumpy when it is time to decorate the tree. They are always tangled even though I am very careful when I pack them away.
I only got rid of the set Chris and I had for our first Xmas in 1981 a little while ago. They still worked but just looked too old fashioned !

Morning All
Yes Ann took my last 2 pills this morning and threw out the boxes with a big smile on my face.
a little bit nervous about eating without my acid reflux pills, had a weetabix for breakfast and still feel alittle sick but it might just be those last 2 pills , will see how the day progresses

Jane , when i was 6 we went down to Devon (Hi Mel) on a summers holiday and bought a liver coloured cocker spaniel puppy, I called her Ginny.
she lived till she was 12 years old and died on my 18th birthday.
I remember poor thing was put in my dolls pram with a hat on and I took for walks up and down the street. when I think back on it , wasn't I rotten, she never made a noise or even jumped out the pram. we had some good times with Ginny , we were all very upset when she had died, she was as lively and quick to the last day, running on the beach and had decided to jump from a wall on to the sand below unfortunatly when we got back home she wasn't at all well and dad took her to the vet and he said she had strained her heart, so he kept her at the vets and the next day 14th September 1973, she had slowly deteriated so the vet phoned and dad went over to see her for the last time and the vet, put her too sleep, till hurts to think about it now sob ,sob.

Mel your curtains sound nice, we used to have a L. A in Glasgow a few years ago. it's a different shop now. I remember buying a dress there
but have never bought any soft furnishings.

Must go and do some washing, also ironing pile is mounting up.

I have noted the comments of the computor again about me sorry Frank I do apologise that my comment made you decide not to be on the thread because of me. I did not want comments made about my dealings with the crime round here it gets me down so much and suggested we just do not communicate together. The thread seem to work well without us both over the week end.I loved reading everyone threads about Christmas

This threads been my life saver during the most awful time of my life loosing Mat and my cancer scare and why should I not be on here I did not say anything to offend you that much Frank.

I have a huge scrapbook of photoes I have kept of everyone whoes sent photoes what am I surposed to do rip them up and throw them away and go off the thread. Also I sent money and bought a card and did this knowing how much everyone disliked me. In between I get insults from Piers who must sit waiting for someone to be nasty to me before he puts his nasty messages on the site. Thank goodness for Jane.
I have apologised so many times to you Frank and Piers for something that was not directly my fault.

I have been making christmas cards for those who have given me an address and do care what happens to people on here.
I was shocked when I read the previous threads I have asked several times do I stay on and been told yes do and I still get nasty messages. I simply said I wanted to be a friend.
I hope I can continue to be on here and Frank come back on you just can ignore me do not make any comment at all You are upsetting Jane Liz and your friends and they are going to miss you. read all your threads and enjoy them .

It is such a lovely day here my Tunision relatives popped in but have gone now such a beautiful girl with a beautiful baby but she was born with a huge lump on her forhead but it can be removed when shes older.
Prince William is engaged also thats cheering news.

We reached our target at the charity shop £1,OOO pound for the scanner its been such hard work but well worth it we have worked at home also. Sophia s made beautiful Christmas cakes also.

Have a nice day.

Mandy ,yes the arrived yesterday, and the Jacket from the first was picked up later.Chris likes the new one ,I'm not sure about the trousers!!! But can I say anything??? NO.They just look a bit too slim legged to my mind.Cost a b***** fortune too.
Yes Sheila well done raising all that money.A lot of hard work goes into fund raising, and what a brilliant thing to raise money for.

I burn Christmas cakes so gave up trying several years ago.I might try mince pies again this year.I did have a lovely recipe for Filo mince pies.I think it was a sainsb*** one from probably 5 or more years ago.But I have lost it.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 16 Nov 2010 18:21

Slim legged ???? or do you mean tight lol

Jane , i make hubby's mothers christmas cake recipe , and tie a double sheet of brown paper round the tin so no way will it burn as the oven is only on at 130 and then you turn it down to 110 ,i'll send you the recipe if you want its really easy !!

Jane

Jane Report 16 Nov 2010 18:35
