On my notes from my previous dentist it had *BOLTER* in red letters at the top lol.

I did a runner halfway through a teeth cleaning once cos it made me feel sick.

So in all seriousness I WILL be plotting my exit LOL xx

Muffy, I know what you mean. When i had my wisdom teeth out, I felt the same thing. Strangely enough it's not when they took the teeth out, that was ok. It's when they do the x-ray of your teeth.

Tell the dentist beforehand, you'll be fine Muffy.

Is someone going with you? Sorry If you've already said.

Thanks Aunty sue :0)

SRS it's not the pain on it's own really tbh..I have a real prob with a gag reflex thingy...though i'v e been advised to ask for the numbing spray..which i will do. The minute i walk in lol xx

If you can take brufen, check with your dentist/pharmacist whether it's ok to take them beforehand? Make sure you've eaten something before you take them. Hopefully that will stop the pain.

Edit: By the way, the needle may be uncomfortable but taking the tooth out won't hurt. You'll be ok, besides I thought you've had children? If so this should be a walk in the park ;)

You will be fine, Muffy. It's the thought of going which is scary - it's rarely the experience that's the problem. After a week or so of toothache it's such a relief to get it out.

OH has had two out in the last couple of years and went to work the same night both times TW...so ...though i'm absolutely bricking it...I'm semi confident that I'll be ok....OH has a much higher pain threshold though...but I know i HAVE to go else risk much worse.

I have too many to answer to if I back out so it's not an option lol xx

Well these days the dentist gives you spare swabs and a leaflet which tells you what to do in cases of prolonged bleeding. It's not that big a deal.

Libby Report 26 Apr 2010 22:36

I had my first tooth out when I was 17, given gas. Remember being told "time to wake up now, come on Libby" and replying "b*gger off and leave me alone". Thought it was my Mum trying to get me up for work (used to mutter this to myself. If I HAD said it to Mum I wouldn't be alive now !).

Went back the next day to apologise to the Dental Nurse.

Devine punishment for me, my 16 year old daughter says this to me on a daily basis and she doesn't mutter. Yoof of today. lol.

By the way, I didn't feel a thing.
Good luck ... I'm sure you will be fine.

I'll warn him ahead of time scary Auntie Sue...

Thanks Wend...hugely helpful ;0)

I'm a bit of a daft wotsit...as you know so I'm sure I'll be fine :0)

Wend

Wend Report 26 Apr 2010 22:35

Well, I was only warning her. I was s..t scared every time I went, but I had just one bad experience, all the others were fine. I would have been grateful if someone told me that bleeding for a long time afterwards was not right and to get something done about it quick. I'm sure she'll be fine. It's VERY RARE to have a bad experience - I was just unlucky.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 26 Apr 2010 22:23

Come on Muffy - you big baby. Having your tooth out won't be anywhere near as bad as toothache. You'll be just fine and if the big nasty dentist hurts you I'll come and sort him out - at your expense of course:-))

Seriously - going to the dentist isn't the scary experience it used to be.

Nice one Wend, that's really helpful for someone who is terrified of going. Muffy was looking for reassurance, not scare stories.
