I agree with Diane to deface any book or work of art(With the exception Of tracy emin T.I.C) is terrible!
lets be honest if you did deface her work how would you know;-))

Cat, it's also in The Wife of Bath but in Middle English lol

I'm fairly religious and it doesn't worry me. It would if it was one of my books but it isn't. I can see that it can kickstart debate and that can only be good.

I've never seen anything by Tracey Emin that feels like art to me but she's not to my taste, nor is Damien Hirst and I don't think I know any other modern artists:) But I do appreciate graffitti:)

Oh Eldrick you are so annoying. I hate it when people bu""er off like that. Actually there is nothing in the Bible that says you can't work on Sunday. The seventh day is actually Saturday.

Sorry I did'nt come back on line( I have an elderly Mum who needed some help)

Whilst I think art can take many forms and indeed pushes the boundries, I did find this particular form not to my liking--whilst appreciating that some people would think it OK.

It is interesting that the protest did not receive any political supportand my opinion is that if it were the writings of any other religous group then all hell would probably break loose.

Thanks for all the comments, just heard that the gallery has now placed the book behind glass but showing comments.

Alma-Tadema is considered a bit 'chocolatey box' but I don't care lol...

this is my favourite picture in the National gallery

I don't like Constable's paintings :)
or Picasso come to that. I like pre Raphaelite paintings

I bought at auction yesterday a Lawrence Alma-Tadema print :) really pleased with it .
I love the quality of light in his work and the
painting of the marble, just looking for it in
images on here

here it is 'Spring Delight'

Yes, I suppose that's true. We're not really meant to stone people to death for working on a Sunday after all. People will always take written works too seriously.

lol

I'm off out now, so no point in attacking me or sending nasty PM's!

I doubt that any religious books have caused any problems in themselves, it's just the people who have taken control of them that have done that. In my opinion.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 29 Jul 2009 19:19

And my opinion is that the bible is well worthy of a bit of defacement, but that's just me. Considering the trouble it's caused over the years, a few rude words on it aren't really out of place :-)

Roxanne - just voicing my opinion, which I'm allowed to do!

lol

Jac

Jac Report 29 Jul 2009 19:01

Striking bit of sculpture Rox in my opinion, although only seen it on the telly and in the papers - not seen it "in real life".

I rather like things that are abstract in form, and my son does a lovely line in "modern art" which he'll paint to suit any colour scheme and makes a fair wack from it! ))))

Myself I go more for prints and if I buy a print or painting, then it must contain a solitary person - dont ask me why, cos I couldnt tell you the reason!

Rox... I think it is absolutely beautiful :)

Roxanne

Roxanne Report 29 Jul 2009 18:52

I have No Problem with abstract art as long as the artist can paint,/Sculpt but there are far to many who think they can and just cant!
degrees or not!

what about that "Angel of the north" what do you think of that?

Hoobity

Hoobity Report 29 Jul 2009 18:45

I was told by my ex that modern artists are indeed trained to paint well but the likes of Picasso had to un learn all that they were taught and to paint like children. Oh well...what was the point of being trained in the first place.

What a pleasent debate this is.

We are all voicing our opinion, we just don't all have the same one:)))

Roxanne

Roxanne Report 29 Jul 2009 18:40

Maybe so Fiona,But to me Tracy Enim can not be called an artist!

call me old fashioned but a true artist needs to be able to paint or sculpt a person, animal or just a landscape.
not a lot of gobbledegook!

Eldrick, I am voicing my opinion which I am allowed to!!

Hoobity

Hoobity Report 29 Jul 2009 18:34
