My knee seems easier.now, probably the injection. Not sure if that is a bad thing as once I had got over the bad pain on the first night, it was only very painful if I was twisting it and the pain was a warning. Now I don't know, but I will be careful.

As well as the anti inflammatory in the injection, I have another tablet to take at bed time. The blurb says only to drink.in moderation as the tablet increases the effect of the alcohol. Good job I am in the wheelchair

Grr silly thing won't post.Tec, I think you should ring the home manager tomorrow. And tell her what you found Ask her to find out if the Duchess had been dressed. As you say she may have undressed herself, but would be better to talk to her and keep them on their toes given their past history

It was very wise to see the doctor Linda, rather than enduring the pain and chancing it till you got home, when more permanent damage may have been done.
The cost really doesn't matter whether the insurance co pay up or not.

Anyway, hoping you are getting some relief from the pain, and can make the best of what's left of your holiday. Take care.

I went to see the Duchess today.
I was rather surprised to find her in her room sitting on the bed still in her nightie at 3-3pm this afternoon.
There were lots of clothes on the bed, and she seemed to be totally confused as to what to do.
I asked a member of staff if she had been out of her room today, and was told that she had been around earlier.
Surely, the residents are not normally allowed to roam about the place in their night clothes. I haven't seen evidence of this before.
Anyway, I sorted things out, found clothes for her to put on, and put the rest away.

It did occur to me that possibly she had been dressed earlier, and had returned to her room to change back into her nightclothes.
The Duchess was generally confused today, so that is a possibility.

As I was leaving I was introduced to the young Asian couple from the Midlands who apparently own the place. Just a brief handshake.

I can't go again now until next Wednesday, as I have Milo until then from tomorrow.

I gave in to OH and we went to see the doctor this morning. I told him I thought it was a damaged ligament behind my knee

He took an X-ray to check the bone was fine, which it was. I have been wearing a very good elasticated knee support, but he insisted on putting an old fashioned elasticated bandage on it for two days which was already coming off by the time we got back. Luckily we had a safety pin in the sewing kit. Having a shower is going to be a bit of a problem, at least I could take the other one off.

He gave me an injection which is a five day pain killer and anti inflammatory. I feel a bit spaced out now and my knee was only painful when I bent it which it still is,so I think some ordinary ibuprofen and paracetamol would have been just as good.

He gave me a prescription to get some tablets which I just have to take one a day at night, oddly there are 35 in the box which is a bit of a waste

I have to go back on Saturday to check it is OK. Cunningly they made us pay for Saturday today to make sure we go back

The diagnosis - I have damaged a ligament behind my knee

That will be three hundred Euros please

We have travel insurance of course, but I don't know if you remember that a few years ago, I tore the cruciate.ligament in my knee when I tripped on a pothole. That was the same knee, bug at the front. I bet they try to get out of paying because I didn't declare that

Hello all. We all seem to be having good weather. That's nice to know.
Linda. ..Do you know how you hurt your knee? or did it just "go" on you? If you don't know what caused it, you would be wise to check with the doctor about it.
Take care and don't ignore it.

It is about 27 here, but it is pleasant because of the wind.

I am going to say goodnight and conserve some of my free wifi for the morning.

I love botanic gardens. We have a beautiful one only 15 minutes from us. When we go to Hobart Aiden insists on taking us to the Hobart Botanic Gardens because "Grandma loves plants". They have a spectacular begonia display and a Japanese garden as well as many native plants. The one we are going to today is the biggest one in Australia.

Photo's? oh good :-)

I've visited botanic gardens in many parts of the world - fascinating places.

It's decidedly cool here this evening. I should have put the heating on for the first time, but it's too late now :-(

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 1 Oct 2014 21:57

Ice would definately help, Linda.

There will be photos I'm sure Tec :-)

Good Afternoon Sylvia,

Good Morning Sue,

The natural botanic garden sounds interesting, I should like to see that.

That sounds nice Sue, don't overdo it for Your OH's knee as he has just been fixed

LindainHerriotCountry Report 1 Oct 2014 21:50

I could get some ice, there is a minibar in the room, I will see if it is cold enough. I have my compression bandage which is good support during the day. I can't really bend it much which is a nuisance. Luckily I already have a doctors appointment for the day after I get home. It was to ask if I can have my cholesterol tested as it has never been done. Why you need to waste an appointment for that baffles me, but I can have my knee looked at instead.

Oh dear Linda - I do hope you still manage to get some well deserved rest this holiday. Not easy when your in pain :-(

Another lovely morning. We are going out with my brother and SIL to a native botanic gardens about an hour's drive away. We have been before and it's beautiful. Quite hilly in parts but with wonderful views. Joel had a sleep over last night and is coming with us. He's very excited :-)

It is good that you have a nice garden to sit in. You would think the hotel would have a decent wheelchair though.
Perhaps someone on the hotel staff could get you Ibuprofen from the pharmacy if it's in town?

I don't know why you feel silly moaning, I think you can be excused considering.
Hope you have a more comfortable night.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Oct 2014 21:20

Linda .....................

can you get hold of some ice? If so, wrap it in a face cloth and put it on the BACK of your knee

Or ............. do you have a little fridge in your room, with a freezer part? Wet a face cloth, put it in a plastic bag if you have one, and freeze it for a few hours.

You can mould that around your knee much more easily than ice cubes.

If you can do either of those .................. put your feet up, and ice your knee down for about 15-10 minutes 3 or 4 times a day.

What you have done sounds so similar to what I did 3 or 4 years ago. We've never worked out what it was .................. but it was damn painful!

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 1 Oct 2014 21:11

Good evening one and all.

It has been a nice day here, windy of course, but our little garden has high walls to shelter it. We spent most of the day reading on the sun loungers, mainly in the shade.

The hotel handyman blew the tyres up, but one of them went down very quickly, it must have a slow puncture, so it makes it difficult for OHTo push. We ventured out to the pool bar for lunch and went into the dining room tonight via the staff corridor, the chefs look a bit surprised, but it is a good short cut.

The gardens here are very pretty with lots of paths meandering through them, there are lots of ramps, but some are very steep.

I only have paracetamols Tec, I suppose OH should have got some ibuprofen when he went to the pharmacy, but he didn't think, neither did I

I hope I have a better night,it was really painful trying to turn over. On the other hand, it is nothing in comparison to what you have been through Tec,so I feel silly for moaning.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 1 Oct 2014 18:36

Linda I hope your OH found a pump - and that one way and another you are managing to get about the hotel. It sounds very nice, but such a rotten thing to happen on your holiday.
Have you managed to get any painkillers?
Much cooler here today 17C, and turning colder at the weekend, so make the most of the sunshine.
Don't try doing the dusting with that dodgy knee :-D
Take care.
