Fantastic that the baby was saved by his nappy being caught in a tree - lucky boy.

I think that sometimes the mind goes into overload when subjected to horrific experience, and becomes temporarily unbalanced - taking time to return to normal.

I pity people with tortured minds

It is so stupid that no counselling was offered.. the military seem to have a habit of "we don't even go there" some of the stupid punishments that are dished out during wars are incredible...

and then on the other hand here, someone reports their lawnmower stolen and they are asked if they would like victim support. I was asked this when someone tried to break into my shop.. why they did not break the glass door I do not know.. they had made a right mess of the wood around the lock and had not gained entry. I reported it and a policewoman came and talked to me about it and gave me a victim support pamphlet.. I would have preferred a sticky bun..

I spoke to her the other day and it is in her mind at the moment because of the 10 year anniversary. She said now and then she still has nightmares. No counseling was ever offered :-(

There was an article in the paper of a young lad of 10 or 11 who survived that terrible Tsunami 10 years ago.. he was saved by his nappy. It was caught in a branch of a tree and he was found hanging there.

Traumatic events certainly change people's thought patterns Sue and yes thankfully with time things get slotted into little corners of the mind and the blow softens somehow.

That is very sad for all of them Sue, but good that Aiden's mum has "recovered" from her experiences.

I was watching a programme about the homeless this week. They are always featured at Christmas.

A huge percentage of homeless men on our streets are ex-servicemen who couldn't settle back into civilian life.
Also a large percentage of young men in prison are also ex-servicemen.

They get little, or no, help from the military :-(

It was sad to see her change from a happy young woman to someone we could hardly recognize. When she came back she couldn't settle and my son took over almost full responsibility of Aiden. She is a great mum now and thankfully she and my son have a good relationship although not as a couple.

It is very sad that often people who witness traumatic events on that scale often suffer personality changes that affect their lives, and those around them.

We see that with the soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

:-D :-D

It is 10 years since the dreadful tsunami hit south east Asia. Aidan's mum was in the air force at that time. As she was a medic she had to leave 10 month old Aiden to go to Bandeh Ache. It was a bad time for her and she came back a changed young woman. It was sadly the beginning of the end of her relationship with my son as for a while she was very silly :-(

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 26 Dec 2014 23:12

You may not get frost and snow Tec but you may get a tsunami :-0

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 26 Dec 2014 23:09

It certainly does here Persie - we have our own little micro-climate,

We hardly ever get snow or frost, being at sea level.
