Here increasingly the supermarkets give their out of date stock to homeless charities

Persephone

Persephone Report 27 Dec 2014 22:55

Himself was sent back to the supermarket with his packet of doz .. free range eggs the expiry date was the day he bought them... I know that all the eggs won't turn bad that day and he said oh they'll be okay. When he got back the supermarket was quite happy with the return and they had just finished removing all those boxes of expiry today on them when he turned up.

Now what do they do with all those boxes of eggs.. where are they returned to.. etc. There seems to be an abundant amount wasted in perishable goods.

We regularly talk to call centres that seem to know all about our banking and phone system etc in India etc. I do mean when we ring them.. not when they ring us and are scams.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 27 Dec 2014 22:51

I am tempted to make so many comments there Tec :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Dec 2014 22:49

Asda are the only supermarket to deliver here - Tesco deliver just as far as Fairthingy, just three miles away, but they won't come here :-(

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 27 Dec 2014 22:47

She has had to switch to Sainsburys because Asda do not do Hemp milk which she uses for Esme, They seem to provide food with longer sell by dates

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Dec 2014 22:43

One of the disadvantages of not doing ones own shopping.
Though the service is invaluable to me for obvious reasons

LindainHerriotCountry Report 27 Dec 2014 22:39

My daughter uses on line supermarkets. She always used Asda but I noticed that most of the fresh stuff was very close to its use by date when it arrived.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Dec 2014 22:39

I have had items before with a very short use by date :-( but never way past it.

Fortunately, I didn't have to pay for the call :-D

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 27 Dec 2014 22:37

That's silly Tec and surely they check the dates....well I would have thought so but obviously not :-(

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Dec 2014 22:35

I agree Linda - it is absurd for a query regarding out of date items be answered in South Africa.
I was very surprised at Asda.

Obviously no one checks dates when packing orders. I am to have a refund on my next order

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 27 Dec 2014 22:31

That is ridiculous Tec, why on earth cant they have British call centres and better stock control pf course

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Dec 2014 22:20

That was very sweet of Eve Linda :-)

all children acquire selective deafness - you must know that, having been a teacher :-D

Good Morning Sue,

We have no snow, but we had hail several times today.

I had my Asda delivery today. Two "fresh" items were five days out of date, so I phoned them.
The very nice lady asked me what the weather was like here, so I told her. To which she replied it was a beautiful day where she is, and 22C.
"Where are you" I asked - "Pretoria South Africa " she replied :-D

The house was absolutely freezing Tec, it is warming up now thank goodness

it was sad to come home and find eve's toys and drawings out just as we left then, but she wasn't here to play with them. She was snuggling up to me this morning while the others were packing. I told her we were going home. she said "I will miss you hanma, but don't worry, I will see you soon". It was so sweet, not that she is always sweet, she has selective deafness when she doesn't want to do something.

Hello :-)

Good to see you are home safely, Linda <3

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 27 Dec 2014 21:42

Though about you getting home today, as I saw on tv news there was a lot of snow on the roads in South Yorkshire and Sheffield area with cars abandoned everywhere.
Anyway, glad to see you are home safe. Expect the house was cold after being empty for a few days.
Hope you all enjoyed yourselves - I know Eve did :-D
