"Most women are in labour for a long time, for the first baby at least."

How long was she 'in labour' for?

"like all tv births they keep their knickers on lol"

I can't help thinking that some of them should keep them on nine months previously lol

I had pethidine with my first and was so spaced out, also had gas and air which made me sick, they took baby and I didn't see her for a couple of hours as she was in the nursery (we didn't have babies with us in those days). They left it too late for pethidine the second time and I refused gas and air so felt wonderful and alert afterwards, had no stitches either time.

Dear All

Yes, Maria's birth scene in "Coronation Street".

Totally unrealistic.

Wouldn't Tony have panicked more?

and the way he got his shirt off so quick.

Excuse me, this was to boost the female viewing ratings!

And how come he got another shirt on for the ambulance scene!

Did he carry a spare?!

What about when Violet the barmaid gave birth in the Rovers.

There were people propping up the bar looking!
No shame!

Best wishes to all.

OK I'll admit to shouting and swearing second time round, but as both birthing rooms were occupied and I had gone into second stage and was told to hold on......well, have you tried NOT pushing in second stage??? Yeah I swore, with my hubby trying to get the gas and air on my face lol

Yes but to be fair, they can hardly put a new-born under the spotlight in the first few minutes of it's life can they. Those minutes are for mum and baby, not for soap opera cameras. I don't mind that so much.

But if they wanted to make the birth as realistic as possible I really think they should have had Tony panicking about how to deal with the umbilical cord, not just lifting the baby out, wrapped in his shirt, and handing it straight to Maria. To me that was poor.

I agree with that.

I had pethidine first time, which spaced me out so much I didn't know what I was doing.

Second time I refused pethidine, but they said it was too late for that and gave me gas and air

WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO THAT WAS GOOD STUFF! lololol

Dear All

Hello,

I am going to be a bit controversial!

I think that women should have whatever pain relief they feel they need during labour.

It was terrible when our female ancestors went through childbirth
and so many died hrough complications.

There is too much criticism of women who don't have a natural birth.

There is nothing natural about being in agony for hours.
Now there are many drugs to help so they should be given.

Far better if the mother has an easier delivery with pain relief
and can bond with baby, then have physical and mental problems afterwards.

Best wishes to all.

strange the way things are depicted in films........
the guy ALWAYS( well mostly) gets out of the conjugal bed with his pants on, the girl ALWAYS pulls up the sheets to cover her chest;
and often the pair will pull on their clothes, straight after the so called act......
